Migraines in children

Does anyone have any experience of their dc getting migraines? What were their symptoms? What have you done to manage it?

Dd (8) experienced what I think was a migraine last night. She was really tired all day (unusual for her) and then at bedtime, she said she was seeing lots of floating dots and flashes of light and strange shapes. At one point, she said green squiggly lines were shooting out of the bathroom door and my eyes had purple squares around them. She drew out all these shapes of things she was seeing on paper to show me and found it really distressing. She said she also had a headache. It was 11pm at this point, so I wasn't really keen to call 111 (and get sent into A&E), so gave her some calpol and got her to sleep. She woke up this morning and said it's mostly better though still sees some funny floating things in her vision, but no longer has a headache and was bouncing around as normal.

Does anyone have any experience of this in a child of this age? What have you done about it? Dh gets quite bad migraines, not often, but when he does, is completely incapacitated for at least a few hours, can't speak except gibberish, one side of his body goes numb. They started when he was a teenager. He just takes paracetamol and rests until it goes away. I don't know if this makes dd more likely to also get them. I really don't want to drag her to out of hours if she's fine and we can handle it at home, so going to keep an eye on her today, but wanted to see if this sounds similar to anyone else?
