How do you make your bottles?

Just that really, due DC3 in February, DC1 is 10 and DC2 is 8 so I feel totally out of the baby loop and a lot seems to have changed!

I'm not going to even attempt breast feeding this time, I did with DC but I didn't make enough milk so constantly had hungry babies, bleeding nipples and mastitis twice. It was soul destroying!

We now have prep machines, do you have one? Do you recommend them? If you don't use one how do you make up your bottles without having to wait for ages for it to cool down with a baby screaming in your ear Confused

Genuinely feel like I don't know what do with a baby now ekkkk!

I don't have one but all my friends who do say they are the best invention ever!

Honestly the perfect prep machine is amazing! They get some bad press but we have used ours the whole time and never had any problems x

I always make 2-3 bottles in advance and store them at the back of the fridge + I always have hot water in thermos, which shows degrees of the water so when I’m down to my last bottle I make 2 more from the thermos, in the fridge, new boiling water in thermos and everyone’s happy. Never had any problems like this.

Ready prepared liquid formula bought in litre bottles for the first few weeks, then made 6 at a time, cooled and in the fridge.

Then when DD was taking 4oz a time at about 3 months I brought a prep machine. 4oz is the smallest amount you can make.

Jellybean100 · 19/08/2021 13:31

Some babies are on 4oz by the time they’re 3-4 weeks old so you could just use ready made until then as current guidelines are to make each bottle up fresh

NannyR · 19/08/2021 13:36

You can replicate what the perfect prep machine does by mixing the powder with a shot of hot (over 70°) water then adding a measured amount of cooled boiled water.
Or you can make up a few bottles in advance using 70°+ water and cool them down very quickly, then store in the coldest part of the fridge.

Tommy Tippee Day 'n' Night prep machine. Best baby item we ever purchased! They get mixed reviews but as long as you're changing the filters regularly and giving them regular cleans they are fantastic. Saved many a break downs 😆

CoffeeMonkey · 19/08/2021 14:42

We use the Tommee Tippee perfect prep as well, so simple & also very easy to clean & maintain, would highly recommend

Blippibloppi · 19/08/2021 17:40

Perfect prep, it's my favourite baby thing. Ready made bottles for going out.

Phiphi123 · 19/08/2021 18:39

Perfect prep is amazing would 100% recommend. The smallest feed they make is 4oz though so we used pre-made SMA in those early weeks to save pouring feeds away and after that on to tins of aldi formula in the perfect prep

AliceTheCamelHasFiveHumps · 19/08/2021 18:54

I just made 2 or 3 bottles at a time and kept in fridge.

Overnight used to make up for the night and keep them in a cold box

Stef92 · 19/08/2021 21:16

Perfect prep machine is the best thing we have bought, the only downside is that it only starts at 4oz

SantoPalo · 19/08/2021 21:32

I now have a prep machine which is helpful at night. Prior to getting the machine I would do this to make a 150ml bottle. I have boiled cooled water already in a jug. I boil kettle, pour 40mls of boiling water into bottled, add the formula shake or swirl. Swirling is better less bubbles so less wind for baby. Once formula dissolved I topped up the bottle with the cool boiled water and swirled again. Bottle was generally at temperature for baby to drink straight away as I don't make while bottle with boiling water

Timeturnerplease · 21/08/2021 06:11

You can get a machine called a Baby Brezza which looks amazing - my sister has two (one upstairs, one down because she had a massive house). It mixes powder and water to make a perfect temperature bottle in minutes.

Love my prep machine, but if I could afford it I’d 100% get a BB!

Cr17 · 21/08/2021 08:22

I used a prep machine after being recommended it by a few close people to me, it was the best! The last thing I wanted was to wait for a bottle to cool down in the middle of the night, half asleep with a crying baby! 😁
Once our LO dropped night feeds I stopped using it and started making them with the kettle

Covetthee · 21/08/2021 08:26

Another vote for prep machine, and ready made bottles for when you’re out.

Making bottles in advance is a faff esp as you will probably need it heat it up a bit as most babies don’t take ice cold milk.

Prep machine gives the perfect temp and takes 1/2 mins max.

Snorkello · 22/08/2021 06:37

Congrats on no. 3!

I’ve heard great things about the prep machines, but if you can’t afford it, my fave hack is to keep a couple of bottles in the fridge with boiled water in. When you need a bottle, make it up with fresh hot water and top up with the cooled boiled water. Ratio is about 2:1 cold:hot. No extra cost, instant, sterilised and ready to go without worrying about freshness etc. Plus it’s the right temperature. Get some instant formula too and keep it on hand for emergencies.

Mommabear20 · 22/08/2021 07:25

Prep machines are my absolute life line! Especially at night! We have 1 upstairs and 1 down to minimise the time baby is awake. They're so simple to use and clean and super quick!
If I'm going out, I'll take powder in the bottles, and a flask of boiling water and a second of cooled boiled water and mix it the same as the prep machine would. It can be a faff with the flasks but much cheaper than the pre made stuff IMO
