Feeding schedule & uncertainty

Hi

I really want to reach out and ask about other parents feeding schedules.
My baby is 7 months and my anxiety is getting the better of me as to how much I should be feeding her. I'm writing this post because this morning she has been really distressed and I gave her an extra bottle of milk which she tanked and it's making me wonder if I'm not actually feeding her enough and now I'm feeling so unsure of what I am doing.
Current schedule stands as follows :

8am - 60g of yoghurt & half a slice of toast
11am - snack
12.30 - 7oz milk
15.30 - cooked healthy meal
5pm - snack
7pm - 7oz milk
10pm - 7oz milk

Any help appreciated xx

At this age you should be offering milk about an hour before food. If she ever drains the bottle of milk then you should offer more.

Hmm. I always did a bottle of milk on waking, and before meals, as the main source of food. Then bits to eat afterwards. We didnt still do a 10pm feed st that age too but I dont know what your day looks like so later bedtimes may work better for you.

Mine was

7am - milk
8am - toast fingers/banana etc
11am - milk
12noon - food (broccoli, strips of chicken etc)
3pm - milk
4pm - leftovers from our dinner previous night
6.30pm - milk before bed at 7.

She has no milk until midday?! That’s a long time!
Also food wise keep offering until she pushes away the spoon.

I think at her age she should be having more milk and as a pp said if she drains the bottle offer more. I'd still be feeding on demand at this age not to a schedule but thats just me.
Definitely milk then food and milk in the morning. Untill 1 milk should still be there main source of nutrition.

Ah this must be where we are going wrong. I think I must have been thrown as when I told the HV how much milk I was giving her she responded with 'oh wow that seems like a lot!' Which is why I started pulling back on it. I think we'll go back to milk in the mornings then.

Give her extra milk and cut the snacks Smile they’re not needed till 1.

Milk on waking from each nap and in the morning and before bed, food about an hour after milk, two meals is fine until she’s eating a decent amount then up to 3. Basically - prioritise milk for a little while longer. That should also keep her happy!

Pissinthepottyplease · 19/08/2021 10:49

I was also told 3 meals a day from 9 months.

Aria2015 · 19/08/2021 10:51

I'd add a bottle first thing and maybe reduce the other 3 bottles by an ounce or so you're giving 4 x 5 / 6oz bottles. At that age both mine were only eating very small amounts and so milk has been the main source of nutrition.

Thesearmsofmine · 19/08/2021 10:53

My dc all had milk in the morning when waking, breakfast a bit later. Milk at 11ish, lunch at 12/1. Milk mid afternoon. Dinner at 5/5.30. Milk at bedtime.

HVs are not worth their wage half the time IMHO

grey12 · 19/08/2021 10:54

Until about 1 year old most of their food intake should be milk with increasing amount of complementary food Wink

Tbh at 10 months DD3 barely eats..... her doing, not mine. She mushes through a little bit of banana in the morning, yesterday she had maybe a couple of green beans with a tiny bit of bread at lunch time, and a little bit of sweet potato at dinner time. Confused even then it depends on the mood

Dumpling89 · 19/08/2021 10:55

I really appreciate all these responses and I feel a lot better about how we are going to go forward as of now Smile just wanted to say a massive thank you to you all for the advice :) xxxxxx

We still gave 4 or 5 milk feeds at the age and maybe 2 or 3 meals. Snacks didn't come in until about 9 months when milk started to reduce

dementedpixie · 19/08/2021 11:03

P.s. milk was at 7, 11, 3, 7 (approx) and food at 8, 12, 5

Harrysmummy246 · 19/08/2021 11:13

DS was BF but at 7mo, it was boob boob boob, chuck a bit of food in his direction when I ate.
HVs said he was a good advert for BF at that age too so.....

SilverTimpani · 19/08/2021 11:39

I think a morning milk as soon as she wakes will sort the problem. My baby is BF so I don’t know how much he has bit he feeds 4 or 5 times a day at 8.5 months.

Exactly mine at 10months now Grin she'll be interested if it's watermelon, orange or baby cheetos but besides those it depends on the current mood
mindutopia · 19/08/2021 13:16

I wouldn't worry about snacks at this age. I'd focus on adding in meals as and when you are able. I didn't start 3 meals a day consistently with either of mine until 7.5-8 months and not snacks until 10-11 months. We always continued to offer milk same times as normal and fit in first breakfast, then lunch and eventually dinner around that. Definitely milk first thing in the morning.
