Hair

This might seem trivial and sound silly but what do you do with a 1 and a half year olds hair when it keeps getting in their eyes? The only clips and stuff I can find all have warnings about 36 months on them. I really don't want to cut it but I think I'm going to have to!

I used to just get plain bobbles and the little clips from Claires. I avoided ones with decorative bits on them. They all say not suitable for uner 36 months, I used to just make sure she didn't have them in at nap or bed time or in the car, as if she'd pulled one out and put it in her mouth I might not notice/been able to stop her. Most of the children in DDs group at nursery wore clips/bobbles despite being under 36 months.

I put a little top knot in dd's hair when she was that age. I took the bobbles out for naps - same as I would for my hair. Clips never stayed in as her hair was too fine.

I couldn't work out if people used magical under 36 month old hair accessories! Thank you! I don't think clips will stay in so I'll get some little bobbles and make sure she's never unsupervised with them.

It's not daft to check! I use the tiny clear elastic bobbles you can get in Claire's - they're so small they're difficult to cause problems with. Although I did find dd once with one tightly round her finger so was very very careful after that.

Ok thanks for the tip! I did think the big ones look a bit tempting for LOs to play with but then thought they might be safer.

Both mine have sported pineapples & bows of various varieties. With my youngest, bows rarely stay in, they get yanked out. I never really thought about the age limit thing but did always take clips out at naptime/bedtime. I have always left bobbles in though, particularly when snotty as it keeps the hair away from the snot 🥴

MisgenderedSwan · 19/08/2021 10:13

I mainly took them out because my dd was never a still sleeper so she would rub her head on the pillow and if there was a bobble it would tangle the bobble into her hair. I also got nervy after finding the one tight on her finger. She's 9 now and still rubs her head on her pillow to fall asleep and while sleeping, she wakes most days looking like a haystack 😂

I fear i’m going to have this problem soon! Wondering if an Alice band would work (if they’ll keep it on their head that is)?

Zzzzfthg · 19/08/2021 20:56

Definitely clips for my 1 year old! I take it out for sleep and in the car.

CabbagesGreen · 19/08/2021 20:57

I thought about one of those headbands but then keep hearing they are dangerous too.

Might have to resort to hair gel!!

DD wouldn't tolerate hair accessories but a teeny tiny bit of my hair product (boots curl creme) and combing her hair back out of her face till it dried worked.

Product vs no product is like Hermione in the first movie vs Hermione at the Yule Ball Grin
