Reusable nappies - where to start?

I wasn't sure where to post this so thought I'd try here!

Dc4 is due in November and I'm keen to use reusable nappies this time. Dp isn't sure, he thinks the whole house will smell! He has never known anyone to use them before so he has no idea!

Can you give me some starter tips plesse? Is it to wash them everyday or use a good nappy pale? How many do you need to start with?

Thank you 😀

You need the nappy lady. It's the best website for all things reusable nappy related, guides, tips, products and reviews. There's a questionnaire you can fill out and they'll send you a recommendation based on what your needs are.

We have 15 day nappies and 5 night nappies, washing every other day. They're kept in a mesh bag inside a dry bucket.

I also recommend the nappy lady, she’s so helpful.

We use a mixture of totsbots and baba and boo. We have 14 in total and do a wash every 1-2 days. We have a bucket with a tight seal on the lid to keep them in until they’re washed, and there’s definitely no smell.

Let me know if you have any specific questions, happy to answer!

I used Totsbots purely because they are made in Glasgow, and have a rags to riches story behind them.

The bucket has a lid that clips closed. And no smell.

Yes Nappy Lady questionnaire. We wash everyday but some people wash every other day (you'd need a lot of nappies to do that). We only had issues with the smell when we were washing them wrong (washing cycle we were using wasn't long enough to get them properly clean). The advise pages on the Nappy Lady's site helped us fix the issue and then it was easy. The best thing about cloth nappies is that they mostly prevent poo ever escaping the nappy. No poo up the back like you get with disposables.

Join the cloth nappies uk Facebook page, the advice on there is great and you can ask questions
