My Ds is nearly 30 mths and has happily sat on the potty since he was 9 mths.
We have used nappies untill four weeks ago when i finally bit the bullet and moved him over to pants during the day.
He didnt have any accidents but he would just hold his wee untill i put him on the potty. We sing and dance and he is over the moon when he does a wee.
My problem is that he just wont ask for the potty when we are in or out.He is not a big talker anyway but he just refuses to ask for it or to let me know when he needs to go.
Should i persevere or try again in a few months?
Any advice will be gladly received.

do you have one in each room?

i went through almost exactly the same problem, my ds will be 3 next week and has only mastered asking for the potty 2 weeks ago, though we did have accidents. i did persevere and we did get there in the end, a big help for me was a sticker chart with his favourite digger stickers, which i used even if he only did a dribble.he loved to show everyone his new sticker. like your ds mine isn,t a big talker, i initially had to keep an eye on his face as this was his biggest giveaway that he needed to go. it sounds like he is ready as he can hold the wee in, how does he react if he does wet himself? my ds hated the wet feeling and i think that is when he realised he would rather go on the potty. i hope this helps and remember they all get there in the end.
good luck

nailpolish-i have got a potty upstairs and one downstairs.Should i get some more?
Emmlee-He cries his little eyes out when he had an accident and it was only a little dribble so i agree i think he is ready.I know what you mean about the face change ds goes really still and his eyes drift off.Its not so bad being wet through indoors but in this cold weather its not to nice even though i take half his wardrobe out with us.Thats another thing he doesnt like sitting on his potty when we are out not sure if its a cold bum or just embarassed.

its worth a try. then he can make moves over to it, or gesture or otherwise. i didnt use potties - dds prefered the toilet - but a friend of mine had one in each room in the house and her ds used to just point at it. she even had a trick of hiding a choc button or whatnot underneath (!) and her ds thought this was great

If it's just the speaking up that's bothering him, could you persuade him to make some sign to show you he needs to go? My DD beats her chest (was meant to be nappy area but she never quite got the hang of that so the chest it is).

Not really sure why he wont go to the potty himself.Just plain stubborn.Wonder where he gets that from?
We did sing and sign when he was younger as he refused to talk and now he cant even be bothered to do them.aarrgghh!

when my ds got the hang of the potty he was on the toilet within 1 week so there is hope yet!
