6 week old miserable cryer!

My little girl is 6 weeks old almost 7 weeks and what I can tell completely bloody miserable all of the time! She seems to spend every waking moment screaming. I find myself living for her naps and the night time as she sleeps relatively ok at night. Just writing that makes me feel awful and like the worst mum in the world.

She does have reflux dr at 6 week check didn’t seem concerned said as she’s putting on weigh it’s ok and something she will grow out of which I know she will but that doesn’t help now! She will have her bottle between 3-4oz and will bring some bk up over the course of an he or so. She’s feeding ever 2-3 hrs. As soon as she finishes the bottle she screams. I can’t sit down with her for more than 5 mins. Can’t distract her with tummy times and toys etc.

Everyone keeps telling me this is normal but surely this can not be normal! Does anyone have any help as I’m literally close to a break down!

Is very gassy and colicky but doesn’t throw up . I burp him a d swaddle him ( which he hates btw).a
As soon as I put him down he’s crying for Britain !!!!

He sounds just like my little girl. She was particularly horrendous we had a really bad time from 5 weeks to now she just turned 7 weeks and they were a rough 2 weeks I won’t lie lots of tears shed more so by me I think!

She hated being swaddled made her worse. We did try infacol that seemed to have a tiny effect. What milk is he on? Our LG was on SMA we changed to kendamil milk it’s got not palm oil and some other nasties in and that really did help cut down her gas. It is very hard to get in the shops we had to go to Waitrose to get it but now buy it direct off their website.

Is he worse after bottles? It could be silent reflux as they don’t throw up with it.

My daughter was like this and the only thing that fixed her was more sleep. At four months she slept for 19 hours a day so at six weeks I reckon it was mor like 20 mins of awake time. She fought sleep too but I persevered (sling, swaddling, white noise etc.) until she slept as otherwiae she was miserable.

She is 14 now and she still really needs her sleep. She gets very overwhelmed by busy environments and when she hasn't had enough sleep, we really know about it.

Also she would not entertain napping anywhere other Than in my arms for them 2 weeks! So I just let her do it just so she (and us!) could get some rest and a break from the constant crying. She’s now currently very happily sleeping in her Moses basket! It will honestly get better. I didn’t believe it would in the middle of it but it really will. Just a case of riding the storm unfortunately I think! As I say she’s still bad with the colic of an evening but I can now see the light at the end of the tunnel
So to speak!

I think maybe it is silent reflux . I’ve got hv
coming on 25th and will
Discuss with her . He’s on cow and gate infant formula . He only has about 2/3 ounces every few hours but getting him fed is a mission . I just get so frustrated and tired as it’s just never ending . I’m just hoping it gets better with age .

Loucla · 20/08/2021 22:51

It will. Honestly I’d recommend trying the kendamil milk out little one was really bad with wind! Have a little look on their website. And it will get better with age! Apparently peaks around 7/8 weeks so we’re at the peak now but she certainly getting better I honestly couldn’t see it getting better but it does. We thought it was silent reflux to start with when she was 3 weeks as she wasn’t being sick. Went to GP and they gave us carobel didn’t use it initially as I’m was very hesitant of putting my LG On anything at 3 weeks but had to try something as she was horrendous and lucky it’s worked so will hopefully avoid any medications for her. Might be worth booking in with your GP as I think HV are limited with what they can do/prescribe. Have you got your 6 week check booked? Definitely discuss it with your GP at the check x

We had a windy baby, the “ comfort “ eg a primal comfort helped her.. second kid was allergic to milk, had excess head to toe and I fed him for a year and soya thereafter

KILNAMATRA · 20/08/2021 23:12

Aptimal comfort

I'm so glad things have improved for you OP! Always darkest before the dawn with babies!

Permina · 23/08/2021 11:54

Had 6 week check today and gp was so understanding . She thinks he may have an intolerance to cows milk and so she has prescribed him some milk . Gonna give it a try and will let u know x

Hello I know this is an old post but I’m hoping you could tell me how long your little one suffered for? I’m going through the exact the same right now - you sound exactly like me! It’s so hard, she is also very attached to me and isn’t happy with anybody else so all on me! Thanks 😊

Hickpusher2022 · 15/11/2023 21:30

@JC12JC hi! This feels so long ago that I wrote this that I almost can not remember. She was around 12 weeks when she really improved and things got so much easier. She is not almost 2.5yrs and is the most amazing little girl. So worth all the struggles! We also found out at around 10m that she had an umbilical hernia which was the likely cause of her reflux and associated problems we had! She still
has it now but doesn’t seem to affect her and drs say they won’t treat until around 4yrs as they usually resolved but themselves by that age so fingers crossed.

it May sound terrible to say but I truly hated the newborn/ early weeks/months with my little girl but it does and will get easier! I felt abit robbed tbh as lots of friends has babies same age and they all seemed to be little dreamboats 😬 I now have 13 week old who I’m glad to say was the complete opposite to my LG! So much anxiety that he would be similar but wanted to give LG a sibling. He has been my little dreamboat! So true that every baby is different.

sorry for the ramble and lack of advice probably but it will get better! I think it’s a lot to do with their little bodies and digestive systems adjusting.
