Making bottles in advance and giving at room temperature?

Hi all. I think I'm doing this wrong. I make my baby bottles up in advance , leave them sitting out on the kitchen counter and give them at room temperature. I leave them sitting out for no longer than 24 hours. Is this the right way?

Absolutely not that's actually very dangerous. The safest way is to make each bottle fresh. If you really want to make them up in advance they should be stored in the fridge for up to 24 hours max

You need to flash cool them and store in the fridge, then use within 24 hours. If made the way you’re doing it, should be discarded after 2 hours (1 hour if drank from).

No put in fridge coolest part and reheat in jug of boiled water or a bottle warmer.

I would make mine on the spot by using 1/2parts boiled water to dissolve and kill bacteria in the formula, then top up with cooled boiled water.

Then I brought a machine that does it for me and never needed to worry again unless out and about Grin

That's probably the worst way you could prepare infant formula. If making in advance they must go in the fridge for no more than 24 hours. At room temperature they are ok for 2 hours

Stored at the back of the fridge or the wee container down below ??

If you are giving them at room temperature why not make up the bottles with boiled water and pre measure the powder.

Then when you need a bottle all you need to do is tip the powder in and your ready to go?

Because the water needs to be boiling when the powder’s added. If this is done your approach will mean the baby’s given a boiling bottle!

@LittleBearPad oh really I didn't know that! Not used formula myself but this is how my friend used to do it so I thought it was ok. Makes sense that the water needs to be boiling to sterilise the powder though!

It's absolutely fine to give the bottles at room temperature - it saves faffing about with hearing them up. It's NOT fine to leave the bottles sitting outside all day. I used to make up three in the morning and three at night. Cool quickly and store in the fridge until needed. Bottles must be made up using powder and water 90C temp in order to kill any nasties that might be lurking in the powder.

When my DD was a baby I'd have a large bottle of cool boiled water in the fridge.

I would do (for example) 30ml boiling water with powder to kill the bacteria, shake until dissolved and then topped up with 30ml cold water so it was a nice temp. If we were out and about I just took ready made bottles - saved a load of faff! Not sure if this is correct but DD was fine. I was always too anxious to pre make them and leave them in the fridge.
