Intolerance to potato?

Hi Ladies,

So I've been weaning my DS for the past month, he's had a variety of fruit and veg and never had a problem. Yesterday I boiled then mashed some potato, straight after a spoonful he threw the contents of his stomach up. I thought it might be a one off so I gave him another couple of spoonfuls later on and the same thing happened.

In-between he had his milk and that stayed down, it seems the potato doesn't agree with him, I was wondering if anyone has been through something similar or whether or not you could be intolerant to potato.

He's had sweet potato before and that's been fine and I don't think it's a bug as he's eaten everything I gave him today with no issues

Maybe its a texture thing
Did it have milk and/or butter on it too ?

Part of nightshade family, not uncommon to be allergic/intolerant to potatoes and other members of the family.
Maybe stop with potato and reintroduce at a later date?

sweet potato is not in the nightshade family, so logical that your DC can tolerate one but not the other.

Potato and sweet potato are completely different families, so ok with one and bot the other isnt surprising.

Have you tried hom with tomato or aubergine? They are part of the same family as potato too, so maybe go carefully if you havnt already tried them.

I'd just avoid potato for a bit, and try again in a month or two. FWIW, mine never really ate potatoes for years.

Thank you for all your comments, I didn't realise potato and sweet potato are in a different family so that makes sense. @dementedpixie it was purely mashed potato, nothing added.
@PeonyTime he hasn't had tomato or aubergine yet, but I'll cautiously try him with it and see if I get the same reaction

I always thought potato was a safe bet, but reading your comments has made me realise it's not too unusual
