27 month old doesnt talk and other behaviours

My 27 month old child doesn't talk, no pointing , no waving and rarely responds to name. He understands few commands , observes some actions well - like putting a diaper to a dustbin, solves animals vehicles different shapes puzzles , stacks cups etc

He responds well to other sounds like rhymes on phones or tv , vehicle horn sounds etc . Although he closes his ears sometimes when tv is playing, we think he doesnt like the song and change it and he seems fine then. He reacts to my singing but not to my talking.Should I worry about hearing?

Doesnt really mix well with people. He cries on a high pitch voice, almost inconsolable when we take him to a new place ex: friends home or a restaurant or a bunch of people crowd. But if its outdoor place like parks he seems just fine smiling , running etc.
When inside the car he only watches the moving cars on the road and nothing apart from that! Not even the animals or other scenary.
Doesn't sit in a place always super active doesn't concentrate to what we say.
Babbling but no talking yet.

Any advices will be helpful to ease my worried mind! Thanks in advance mommies!

Have you had his 1 or 2 year check yet? By the age of 2 the baseline would be to be speaking in short sentences and be able to complete a multi part request eg pick up your T-shirt and shorts and put them in the drawer. Super active is normal, does he sit and watch TV? I think you need to ring your health visitor for his 2 year check, raise your concerns and ask for a referral for a hearing test and SaLT which they would do automatically based on his lack of speech.

Agree with Piss I think you need to make sure your HV refers him for a hearing test and some SLT.

If you can't get hold of her, you can self refer in most areas.

This progress checker from Talking Point might be worth doing as well. If it suggests that your DS might need further assistance you could tell your HV the results Thanks

Mumsieee21 · 18/08/2021 23:48

Thanks @Piss,
No he has not had any of his checks due to covid restrictions they didnt even respond well to the chases I did when he was 12 months old.

Thanks for the link @Pissinthepottyplease
And ask for HV .

I'm so confused as my Ds hears and respond to rhyme sounds on tv but not to our speech.. is it possible to hear that and not this?

This is the ages and stages questionnaire the health visitors use: www.mkchildrenshealth.cnwl.nhs.uk/media/1058/asq-27-month-24-month-asq-se.pdf

That might help you see where he is. If he is not talking at all then you definitely need to chase up HV ASAP. At this stage, they are looking for sentences (DD is about the same age and we just had a HV check over the phone recently and that's one of the things they were looking for) and for them to follow commands in sentence form.

That description would’ve fitted my DS, he has High functioning autism.

dottypencilcase · 19/08/2021 00:29

Speak to a HV ASAP. They can make referrals to paediatricians, etc. What's his sleep like? What he like around food? Can he communicate through gesturing?

It’s completely possible. Hearing problems are about a range of frequencies as well as volume level and there is also issues like glue ear which are not stable and causing varying heat loss.

Definitely contact the HV. My DD1 one year check was down over the phone and they’ve just offered to do her two year check in person.

GreenTortoise · 19/08/2021 07:06

@Pissinthepottyplease my DS's one year check was done at 10 months over the phone Hmm.

How old will your daughter be for her 2 year check?

Still waiting for my sons 2 year check...

BunnyRuddington · 19/08/2021 08:03

Have you managed to speak to the HV yet @Mumsieee21?

pontiouspilates · 19/08/2021 08:21

I would suggest a referral to speech & language therapy. In many Trusts you are able to self refer, so do not need a Dr or HV. Google children's speech & language therapy and your Trust and you may be able to see dates for a Drop In or be able to book a virtual screening

I never knew this! Thank you.

My son was like that and he has autism.

WindowsSmindows · 23/08/2021 22:36

I think the screener was called the Mchat or MCAT and if you score highly they fast tracked the assessment, in my area at least
