Red mark...wraps?

Ds has developed red, raw looking red marks on the front of this legs. They roughly correspond to where his wrap sits.

DS spends much of his time (awake and asleep) on his front so not sure if it's just the pressure. The marks disappear after a bit of sudocream though but there seems to be a bit of peeling.

His nappies are very eye watering at the moment too. Wash with soapnuts and give them a cold rinse before hand.

Any ideas??

he may have a touch of eczema - you could try moisturiser instead of nappy cream

mozzybear · 29/11/2007 20:29

Might try that. Also, since ds grew out of his med airflow, have been using 2 lg rikki and 1 lg airflow, I'm not sure, but I imagine he's worse after being in a rikki.

Hmmm, I'm pretty sure they are made of the same materials so if it is the rikki maybe it's at the overlap... perhaps that bit of his thigh is especially sensitive? Try putting a barrier like vaseline on it to pre emt the dryness?
Sorry I can't be more help!

I found this exact problem with Motherease wraps and DS1. I think some babies are allergic to the binding. DS2 is fine with them and I dont' change him any differently? Little lambs and other wraps are better. He did grow out of it because I think when they're older and don't do exploding poos you can do the leg bits up a lot looser.

lailasmum · 30/11/2007 09:37

Mother-ease do seem to have quite rough binding, relative to some. Shea butter is quite good for protecting skin. I think the nature babies wraps have nice soft bindings or you could try fleece wraps.

Denny185 · 30/11/2007 09:42

I use little lambs and can get a bit sore tops of legs if hes been v wriggly getting it on so the velcro dosent get properly aligned

mumtoboys · 30/11/2007 11:33

Wacky wraps are supposed to be really good although I haven't tried them. Also weenotions wraps. I use wool now at night as I find it's better for a heavy wetter and gives their skin a break from plastic etc.

Yorky · 30/11/2007 18:43

DS is in bambino mio because we were given them and has red marks which sound like the ones you're describing, but only on one thigh! Am I fastening him in too tight? And where can I get shea butter please?

mozzybear · 30/11/2007 20:16

I might have to get a couple more wraps. At least I picked up these 2nd hand for not a lot of money. I felt the bindings today and they were really rough and quite bobbly as they are 2nd hand. Might try the barrier cream though

You can get shea butter in lots of health food shops and more natural cosmetics places. You can buy it cheaply on ebay too. Its quite thick and you have to melt it on your fingers for a second or two then put it on but it has healing properties too so a nicer option that some of the barrier creams.

mozzybear · 01/12/2007 10:33

Ok

One of those marks has turned into a solid looking lump, not sure if it has anything in it or not.

Anyone any ideas what that might be?

Maybe infected or something, worth a trip to the doctor. Could be that if the skin is a bit raw he has picked up something else. Probably best to get it sorted. Is it almost like a spot under the skin?

mozzybear · 01/12/2007 13:58

Itlooked a little softer at the last nappy change, but a bit like a spot. Shall see what it's like on Monday. Am due a 60 nappy wash. Still think the wraps are the cause though.

OP posts:
lailasmum · 01/12/2007 15:19

They probably are and then its causing other things. Like when skin gets damaged it leaves it open for other nasties to get in. Maybe lots of nappy off time would help and try a fleece wrap maybe so its really soft on his legs, Or wool maybe cause the lanolin helps healing.

mozzybear · 01/12/2007 22:49

Ds has thinned out again so his medium airflows fit him again. The trims feel much softer so I'm guessing the 2nd hand airflow and rikkis have had it and are only fit for emergencies.

Hmmm, wonder if Flame Xmas gift wraps wraps
