Feel alone

I am a new mum 32 with a 3 week old nearly 4 and I love being a mum but due to covid and where I live . I just feel alone. I don't like the online classes for new mums and I have no friends on the south side where I live and my family are an hour by car but I don't drive or two hours by public transport. We rent and the reason we rent is to have a garage for my partners tools. But my partner no longer works freelance so we don't need a garage anymore. He says he does not want to move due to cost and we will have a mortgage shortly but I want more support now. We pay a fortune for rent too. He's working a week straight with one day off and I have the baby all night and day. My son just wants constantly held. I can't get anything done.

It's hard when you are on your own like that, and you are at a really difficult stage as newborns are so demanding.

The obvious thing to say is, a baby is a full time job so don't worry too much about "getting things done". It does sound like moving house at this moment in time might be quite a big task, so perhaps it's something to contemplate for 2022 when the baby is bigger and you have more energy back

Honestly it does get easier. Baby groups are starting up again - my local NCT is back to doing free drop in coffee mornings, worth looking on FB to see what's going on near you and make the effort to go, even if you feel awkward and don't immediately click with he other mums, as lots of different people will go to the sessions.

Also try and go for a walk every day - is there a park near you, or a little playground, or a supermarket you could walk to?

Last tip, do look on eBay for a baby sling, they are fantastic and very cheap.

If your family is far away, is there any chance they could drive over to you (with a car seat) and you could go and stay there for a week for a holiday?

My partner is going to drop me off at my mums overnight once a week with my son so that should be easier. I'm trying more online stuff but it just feels awkward to be honest.

Most baby classes are moving back to in person now so definitely try searching again. In the meantime If you have a local park take a stroll and I bet you will see another mum on her own and perhaps you could stop and say hi. Covid has been rough I bet she would welcome the chat!
