14 month old hitting himself in the head

Hi all
Just wondering if this is common, my 14 month old son has started to bang himself / hit himself on the head. Not enough to be painful but I can’t imagine it’s comfortable. Not sure if it’s just when he’s tired or frustrated. But trying to stop him doing it seems to be making it worse. Any suggestions or advice are appreciated thanks

Interesting that I’ve come across this, our DS is just under 14m and has started hitting himself in the head with objects, and shaking his head like as if he’s saying no but more ferociously.

I don’t have any answers for you, but, us too 🤷🏽‍♀️

Mine is a bit older and does this. Partly I think because he notices it generates a response. I try to redirect so let him hit a drum or put a hat on for exam0le.

It’s so frustrating to see him hit himself… good idea to try and redirect it to something else. Hopefully just a phase

Mine used to do this around a similar age. It was when he was frustrated and had feelings he couldn’t express. He grew out of it and doesn’t do it any more.

Mine started around this age headbutting everything. Health visitor told me to ignore it....not like you can ignore it when he is slamming his head into the concrete patio Hmm

Anyway it didn't last very long and he moved on to just trying to headbutt me, oh the joys. But HV said it was all very normal developmentally and trying to learn relationships and how much they could push boundaries.

I remember this phase. Horrible. It was usually when he was angry about something. He is 5 now. Hasn’t done it for years and years.

My 15 month old DD has been doing this for a few weeks too. She tends to do it more when I stop her doing something she shouldn’t be doing… Hmm
