How do I stop my 3 yr old dd sucking favourite bunny all night?

I don't really think it's affecting her speech or teeth or anything, but it just gets so revolting so quickly ... I'm fed up with us washing it every other day, losing it, her waking up and not being able to find it ... You get the picture. Should I just leave it? Will she still be sucking it on her wedding day? Should I just pour myself another glass of red and relax?

Pour another glass of red wine and relax!! If it's not affecting her speech or teeth I would not worry about it in the slightest!!

MrsBadger · 28/11/2007 19:40

another glass, def

and consider laying in a spare Bunny just in case he goes AWOL

Yes, she'll still be sucking it on her wedding day ... and to infinity and beyond

But have some wine anyway.

yomellamoHelly · 28/11/2007 20:04

Get a spare (or several) and interchange them. It's what I did with my ds1's teddy. He sucked teddy's nose so much it disintegrated many times over. (I wan't happy with him sucking on the filling material.)

peatbogfaerie · 28/11/2007 20:06

thanks y'all. Sadly bunny was discontinued by mothercare shortly after dd2 became so attached to it. but I'm on the second glass and will soak the damn thing in bleach tomorrow. It's not as if we don't brush her teeth! Where does the yuck come from?! Sorry, third glass being poured and lights being dimmed ...

It's probably good for her immune system.

Egg · 29/11/2007 20:12

My DS is the same. He sucks and chews his "Blankie" all night long. It gets washed every day at the mo as he has been under the weather so want to get rid of those germs. Also discontinued and even tried ebay to find another one the same but no luck.

I, too, have visions of him chewing it whilst sitting his A levels etc.

And it stinks...

Egg · 29/11/2007 20:12

And I can't even bloody drink copious amounts of wine as am pg. Grrrr.

Othersideofthechannel · 29/11/2007 20:21

I've still got (what's left of) my comforter which evidently I chewed a lot but even though it came to Uni with me and creeps into bed when DH is away for the night, I stopped chewing it before I can remember so around age 4 I guess.

fizzbuzz · 29/11/2007 20:56

my dd 16 months also sucks her bunny's ears. it is a white rabbit, and they are truly disgusting.

He is now a white rabbit with dark grey ears.....but we have 3 used in rotation, and even then thay are are revolting

bebopallula · 30/11/2007 18:09

aaww,it takes me back to the comfort i got from my 'la la' it was my mums petticoat

she started hiding them when i was about 5 but i'd sneak in and rummage in her drawer, find it and sigh with relief! off i'd go happy as larry

when she found out, i had to make do with the bed sheet until she realised and put orange nylon ones on, that was the end of my love affair with 'la la' it still makes me sad now! so, a bit of teddy filling i'm sure is not as harmful as taking away a bit of comfort

anyway, it does'nt sound as bad as the boy who sucked a mop head and took it to school! ha!

fizzbuzz · 30/11/2007 20:18

Mop head! Where was that?

bebopallula · 03/12/2007 21:29

north wales! my mum was a lollipop lady for a while and she saw him taking it to school!

Dinosaur · 03/12/2007 21:33

have another glass, and chill

she will grow out of it

seeker · 03/12/2007 21:47

My 6 yeqr old ds is happily asleep with the end of his "loshie" (a very tatty silk scarf) in his mouth and bronty the dinosaur tucked under his chin. Dd(11) has Belle the monkey in her left hand and Plenty the bear in her right. They are both confident, bright, articulate childre, and I presume they will give up their "friends' some day! Mind you, I still give my lion a cuddle when I visit my mum........

bluejelly · 03/12/2007 21:54

Definitely don't bleach it! It's good to have attachments to things. Sure it makes for a secure child.

Have another vino...

moljam · 03/12/2007 21:57

my ds has sleepy cow or skanky as ive renamed him as hes horrible!its light blue and white or was,now its ears are in bits and its more grey!its foul.he constantly has it with him so once a week is most i can get to wash it.we cant find another one either!so he'll still be sucking skanky cow doing his gcses!

onepieceoflollipop · 03/12/2007 22:03

I was debating "weaning" dd2 off a dummy and onto a comforter...but maybe not after reading these posts!
