My sons 19 months.. doesn't talk much other than 'yeah' 'mum' 'dad' 'hey' 'oh'

So a small amount.. I've been on the phone to speach and language who said he's maybe just taking a little extra time as he is speaking just now very quickly etc..

Anyone else's baby been or are the same?
Help me out haha

They always say that babies either walk before they talk or talk before they walk.

In other words, there is so much to learn at this age, they can't learn it all at once. Some will learn the physical skills first, others speech. It all evens out around the age of 2 anyway.

First babies can also be a bit slower to talk than those with older siblings, as can babies being brought up in more than one language.

I know for mine, speech came first, but neither crawled until 11 months or walked until 17 months.

Try not to worry as it will come in time

If his level of understanding is good then don't worry. I always recommend teaching baby signs alongside speaking as it lowers frustration and teachers language skills.

Yes that does make sense tbh! He crawled and walked before his peers who are chatting etc.. I think it's just difficult as children younger than him are talking in sentences and singing! Which is incredible! My friends children go away a few nights a week to different houses though so maybe being around other people and children from small helped? I do hope he levels out chatty wise by 2, I think he does understand.. just doesn't want to have a chat 🤦🏼‍♀️

He can do some little signs like for a drink, sleep and dummy so maybe that's why he's not going for it yet either since I can understand his fav things 😂

He's communicating and that's the key thing.

I had one extremely early crystal clear talker (weird child), one average, one delayed, one severely delayed 🤷🏽‍♀️ they all got there in the end.
