When did you stop being 'strict' with germs

At what point did you stop being strict with things that go into your baby's mouth?
I have teething toys for him which he loves but I feel like I'm forever sterilising them. I obviously want to help build his immune system but also know that some illnesses can make them really poorly which is why I've been careful with everything so far.
He's 17 weeks

I didn't ever sterilise teethers, just hit soapy water.

FTEngineerM · 07/08/2021 16:03

Never sterilised anything.. ever.

PinkDaffodil2 · 07/08/2021 16:07

I didn’t bottle feed so never sterilised anything at all. I think I sterilised a Hakka pump once then didn’t use it! No illnesses until norovirus at 2 years old.

Me neither, I actually have to admit I don't even know how I would have done it. You probably wouldn't want to follow any of my advice though as I don't pay any attention to sell by dates either and I know that's not the norm on here

Or me @AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair I give it a good look over, sniff it and sometimes poke it a little just to be sure 😂

I never was. Growing up as one of many children, and having baby siblings as a teenager, meant that I was very laidback about that sort of thing.

My children rarely get sick BUT they are home educated so aren't sitting in the germ palaces that are schools and nurseries all day long. Wink

6 months. I did an NCT weaning course which said after 6 months the only thing you need to sterilise is bottles. Also after 6 months DS was literally putting everything in his mouth so I had to relax lol!

My children went to Nursery and school and were never sick either

Surely a child's immune system is strengthened the more they mix with others. You sound a little sanctimonious or understandably unaware that the vast majority of children who go to school are rarely sick either.

GrouchyKiwi · 07/08/2021 19:46

Eh, it was a joke, hence the wink.
