Three week old - does this just look like a spot, or something else?

My baby is three weeks old and have Woken up to find he has a spot on his chin (photo attached). The reason I’m worried is because almost a week ago a family member held him for an hour, and only afterwards told me they had a cold sore. I was extremely upset afterwards, as had I known I would have asked them to wait until it had gone to hold him. They didn’t kiss him, and said they were careful with hand washing etc, but of course have been a little worried since. Does the photo just look like baby acne?

It's a spot. Normal at that age. Don't worry Smile

Normal milk spot.

If it helps I've just had a baby and a cold sore... As I their mum I have to hold and cuddle. You can't catch cold sores from cuddling and holding.

MintGreenLife · 06/08/2021 10:16

@PerfectPrepPrincess thank you 😊 I totally get thousands of mums must get cold sores, we just had a bit of a bumpy start and had to stay in hospital for the first 9 days of my baby’s life, so am being extra cautious really x

Have a read up on baby acne! 🙂

MintGreenLife · 06/08/2021 10:35

@Letsallscreamatthesistene I already have ☺️ Just wanted some other eyes on it to be sure x

I think everyone worries at some point that baby acne could be something else more serious. I sent photos of my 10-w-old's cheek and neck to my Dr cousin the other day as her zits seemed suddenly redder and more inflamed and my only other option was A&E. I could practically hear my cousin's eye-roll from 700 miles away!

MintGreenLife · 06/08/2021 10:59

@LaMadrilena good to know I’m normal and not being over the top ☺️ It’s especially tricky when it’s your first and you’re experiencing everything for the first time x

Definitely a normal newborn spot - don't be alarmed if a few more pop up. My daughter had loads! Didn't bother her at all - just me!

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 06/08/2021 11:19

Every time I thought my son was getting over his baby acne it would appear again somewhere else. I think it all finally went at 11 weeks old.

MintGreenLife · 06/08/2021 12:11

@Lnix thanks 😊

@Letsallscreamatthesistene to be fair he does have lots of other little ones on his forehead and nose, it was just the one on his chin was particularly noticeable and appeared over night!

Don't be put off asking here, just because some posters are bloody rude!

Plenty of other posters will give you advice/reassurance/nudge to see a Dr... whatever's needed!!

Enjoy your gorgeous baby xx(milk spots & all!!)

LaMadrilena · 06/08/2021 20:44

Was my post rude? It really wasn't meant to be! I'm a ftm too and just muddling through like everyone else. Confused

clickychicky · 06/08/2021 20:46

Seems cruel of them to tell you after!
