Lactose intolerance question

My 4 month old has had really watery poos almost since birth and our health visitor said she suspected lactose intolerance. As my GP was not concerned I carried on as normal, but my baby’s weight has started to drop, so I’ve stopped eating dairy and soy for the last 3 weeks (and plan to carry on that) to see whether that helps. I’m EBF.

Almost immediately the runny poos have stopped, but they’ve been replaced with nothing! My baby hasn’t pooed now for the last 3 days. Has anyone else experienced anything similar? I’ll go to the GP next week if anything hasn’t changed by then.

It won't be lactose intolerance as breastmilk is full of lactose as that's the sugar in milk. Reducing dairy and soy will not reduce the lactose in your milk.

Your baby may be intolerant to cows milk protein rather than lactose and removing dairy from your diet can help with that.

Ok, sorry, wrong terminology. Any experience of the issue I mentioned?

Not so much wrong terminology as the wrong diagnosis

Breastfed babies can often go many days (some even 10 days) without pooing. Do they seem uncomfortable or are they acting as usual?

Maybe take them out somewhere nice with their best clothes on as that will probably trigger a poonami!

Acting as usual. So perhaps it’s all ok then! Good idea, thanks!
