Girls school shoes with Velcro strap

I'm finally a school mum. My little girl starts Reception and I need to buy her a pair of black shoes with a Velcro strap, no pattern or decoration. I usually buy shoes from Clarks as I like to get her size in width too but they were only patent leather in stock which she found uncomfortable. Are there any good shoe shops (for measure and support etc) that sell a variety of school shoes?

Try Startrite shoes. I find they last longer than Clarkes. You can measure at home and order

Have look at Geox school shoes, my DD has a high instep and the top of her feet bulge out of the usual clarks school shoes as they are all really low cut, which I also find impractical in wet weather.
We found a Geox pair in a local independent (try online or I think John Lewis may also stock them) that came up much higher like normal shoes and were Velcro.

They have lasted really well so worth the price tag and not that different to what you'd pay for Clarks.

Charles Clinkards measure and sell a few different brands.

Wynsors have a good range of school shoes, fair prices.

If your lo usually has a wider fit go for t-bar style as these seem a much better fit. No point spending fortunes on school shoes, they trash them so quickly.

I’ve got two girls at primary school. Shoes 😩 I always buy t-bar, Velcro shoes.

I found Clark’s a bit rubbish and limited on style, M&S were similar. Sainsbury’s however we’re pretty decent and they didn’t get trashed too quickly.

I’ve also been in independent shoe stores and had Froddo (Croatian) - not great, Riscota (German) - better than Froddo, and Bobux (Kiwi) - very disappointing since they’ve worn Bobux since they were tiny and have been brilliant.

I’m working up to Lilli Kelly or Treads this year. Startrite don’t fit their feet and never seen Geox we like.

It’s trial and error I think. Some kids trash shoes and some seem to be fine.

Our school has been lax this year so they’ve worn trainers which is a game changer. So much more practical and comfy, and I can just Chuck them in the wash!

John Lewis will have Startrite and possibly Geox and other brands. Their fitters are pretty good too.

We always found the best for and selection at independent children’s shoe shops.
