3 month old has stopped tummy time

Hi, I’m a first time mum, and to be honest have found it incredibly stressful.

My baby girl has been doing well but I have noticed a few changes this week.

She has been really really good at tummy time, holding her head up at a 90 degree angle and can do it for quite a while. This week she has stopped. She screams and she just doesn’t want to do it.

She has also stopped being so chatty and not giggling. She smiles, but she looks really unhappy.

She has finally started grabbing toys, and is always furiously munching on her hands & dribbling like crazy.

Can babies have off weeks? Should I be panicked?

Thanks!

Teething.

Every day is a new parenting challenge. As soon as you get one challenge nailed she'll come up with a new one. If she doesn't like Tummy time try baby massage or swimming: just keep swapping the sensory experiences. She'll be fine, honestly. Good luck!

Sounds like she’s teething.

It seems a bit bizarre, but teething symptoms in babies include stomach ache, irritability, high temperature, disrupted sleep even upset stomach or diarrhoea. I would guess she just feels a bit off colour and not in the mood for tummy time or interaction. It's not fun for you but not a cause for concern.

If she's not herself, you could try calpol. I hope she's back to her smiley self soon Smile

Tummy time is deeply frustrating for many babies. I’ve never found one yet who enjoyed it, especially at that age. Imagine being planted face down on the floor and then, without being able to really use your arms or legs, the only entertainment is to lift your head off the floor! It’s exhausting and annoying!

They hate tummy time, understandably really. You can lay down and let her do it on your chest instead, at least then she can see you rather than the floor.

They're almost constantly having a growth spurt or developmental leap at that age, both of which can make them grumpy. So yes, they can definitely have off days (and weeks..).
