Had a letter home from DS1's school the other week telling us that today (the 28th November) the YR2's would be having a "Stewarts" day and than they encourage to come dressed as someone from that period in History....even gave some simple (and cheap) ideas of how to achieve the look.

Well I dropped DS1 off this morning to be faced with 3 of his classmates.......all dressed up and DS1 in his school uniform as I'd totally forgotten . He looked so disappointed and I feel awful that I forgot. I bet all of the other children dressed up and he's there in his school uniform.

Last year they were supposed to dress up for book day as a favourite character, and having vetoed Captian Underpants (!) we couldn't think of anything using material in the house on the night before when we actually remembered.

And this term I forgot PTA fundraiser 'mufti day' where they pay a pound (damn, on my US keyboard no pound sign!) to wear their own clothes so DD turned up in uniform.

Luckily she's not too bothered about that sort of thing.

AND she never even told me it was 'bring teddy to school' on children in need day t'other week.

oh it's the school Mufti day tomorrow, have to buy something "purple" as a donation to the raffle/tombola for the Christmas fair rather than pay a £ - not sure what I'll get yet - have a look down the shop later.

I did remember to give him a large orange to take with him on Monday so they can decorate them for the Christingle service which is on Friday QoQ makes a mental note not to forget to attend it*

QoQ - there will be other kids in uniform - he would be in good company at our school anyway - there's always at least half a dozen!

Luckily DDs school provided the oranges for their christingles. I've never seen one before - is this really an old tradition or something recently dug up and popularised?

TheQueenOfQuotes · 28/11/2007 13:55

I bet there won't be many (or even any!) other's in school uniform........you should see when they have these dressing up things almost every parent with a child in YR2 goes totally OTT and they come looking like they've just stepped out of the fancy dress shop!

Christingle has been around (and the organges part of it) for years....

QoQ, this used to be me all the time. You need to buy yourself a dodo pad and then go through every newsletter with a fine tooth comb and put all these things down against the right person's column. I never usually forget now, unles the dcs forget to give me the letter of course .

TheQueenOfQuotes · 28/11/2007 14:02

well we do have one of those lovely Family Calendar things.......but I'd forgotten to put it down ........before he went to work DH made me promise that I would write things down as soon as I'd read the letter - rather than leaving the letter on table and hoping I'd remember to add it later that evening.

DS1 has just started reception this year and I am amazed by how many of these 'events' there seem to be. Nearly every week it seems we have to remember to take something, wear something, go to something - nobody warned me it would be like this!

Had to laugh last Friday though, one poor boy was all dressed up as Robin Hood (great costume, looked home-made) but a week early - supposed to be this Friday. The mum just laughed and didn't seem fazed at all - I would have been mortified!

TheQueenOfQuotes · 28/11/2007 15:37

Well I was correct - he was the only child, out of 60 YR2 pupils, that wasn't dressed up .

However, I have slightly redeemed myself as I've just told him that I'm playing the piano for the Christingle service on Friday afternoon as the Head is still off sick, and he's the only person that can play the piano at the school .
