Head butting toddler

Looking for some help before I loose my mind. Since DS turned 20 months he has developed the habit of head butting if he doesn't get his way. If we say no or 'tell him off' or take something away from him he will throw himself to the floor and head but sometimes hard enough to cause a graze but never a lump or anything like that.

I'm at the end of my teather with it. He is now 25 months and it drives me mad.

Has anyone experienced the same, we do have our health visitor review coming up but am just in a state over it!

Yes. How long before the HV review? Can it be brought forward?

Having been through this, I would also speak to the GP. There are a couple of things it could be, but we had episodes of headbanging with DS that were ear infections, but he couldn't say that his ear hurt.

It's this week. It defo is not any ear infection type thing. There are no other symptoms and it only ever occurred if he is told no or something he wants is taken away which makes us think behaviour.

We have looked at autism etc but he shows no other signs so at a bit of a loss

How’s his speech? My DS had a speech delay and he used to get really frustrated when he couldn’t communicate something…this frustration usually resulted in him head butting the floor! It was always controlled though, not hard enough to leave a bump.

@BitchIAmFromChicago he can say lots of words but doesn't string any together so it wouldn't surprise me if it was frustration.

He rarely actually 'hurts' himself and will only bang it once per episode so it's not repeated behaviour. Occasionally he will leave a graze but this sometimes depends on if he's banged on the floor and a toy has been in the way

He sounds like my DS then! He had speech therapy and came on leaps and bounds. The head banging stopped for him when he was able to communicate properly.

My son did this for months and months! He was very late talking. He's 2.5 now and talks a lot more, the tantrums and throwing things, hitting and head banging have all just been a phase in our case. He's just pouty when he's cross now. Phew.
