Lactose intolerant baby

Hi just wondered if anyone else out there has experienced this.

I have been told my 4 month old baby has primary lactose intolerance as he was born with it and it wasn't a secondary cause to another gastro problem.

He has been on lactose free formula since 6 weeks old. 2 Fridays ago the dietician advised I try a lactose challenge to see if he is showing signs of growing out of it. I put 1 scoop of normal formula to 6 scoops of lactose free formula in his bottles. I did this for 1 day but he started having diarrhoea the next day so I stopped immediately. But ever since he has had chronic diarrhoea which is full of mucus (we are now on day 10) and it's showing no signs of slowing down!!

Has anyone else had this happen to their baby before?... how long did it take for the mucusy diarrohea to stop? He seems ok in himself but I'm still so worried 😕

Thanks in advance

Can I ask how they decided on lactose intolerance? Lactose in tolerance does occur in babies but it’s incredibly rarer and CMPA is much more common

@Pissinthepottyplease can't not smile at that username 🤣

He had chronic diarreah from the day he was born with acidic stool to the point it ulcerated the skin all around his bottom it was awful, they trialled him on CMPA formula for a week but that didn't work then trialled lactose free formula and pretty much over night his stools firmed up and the skin cleared up within a week so that's how they found out in the end.
Yes she did say it's really rare to have a primary lactose intolerance so I'm probably gonna struggle to find many people who I can speak to about it. Uffft 😩

At least there's a lot of lacto free and dairy free things these days though for when I start weaning him

My life is potty training at the moment. I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old with CMPA and I’ve noticed a massive improvement in the availability of dairy free products between having my 2 children.
