I'm sure this has been discussed before, and the outcome of the thread was that the cloth nappy test did not take into account the fact that some cloth nappies normally have some sort of waterproof outer cover, or in previous days, plastic pants. which apart from not having the chemicals etc, must be just as 'hot'.

Although this link is from a few years ago, the argument about "plastic" pants is also a little out of date. Nowadays all decent nappy covers are either wool, fleece or breathable poylurethane which keep the cloth nappy inside cool. High street stores are very much behind the times by still insisting on stocking plastic pants which should really have gone the way of the dinosaurs by now (as should disposables ).

But the covers on disposables are also breathable nowadays, so again, all out of date. Also babies have no sperm in their testicles so it is considered very unlikely that heat in babyhood could have any effect on adult sperm counts. I think this study is pretty much rubbish - it has never been replicated and is used as scaremongering propaganda by those with vested (or panted) interests.

thanks for that reassurance aloha

I also think it is quite untrue to say that disposables provide a 'wetter' environment than reusuble nappies, as the quote from the Issue guy would suggest. I think it is a very, very long time since he changed a nappy of any sort - if ever!

I know this study is complete rubbish but IMO (and experience), modern cloth nappy systems are alot cooler than disposables.
