Struggling to get rid of nits in my DCs' hair. Been combing regularly with conditioner to no avail. What treatments have worked for you?

Maybe try a different comb? You need a plastic one with square teeth, the metal ones aren't as effective.

Are you doing yourself/kids dad too? I have been lucky enough to share the kids' "visitors" more than once. Grandparents too... Sad

Just get the stuff from the chemist. One treatment and bam. Gone. Wash bedding. Check the family hair - treat if necessary.

Nitwits worked best for us. The rest where useless. It seems to de stick the eggs very easily and then regular combing

Thanks- have tried other shampoo treatments without success so will get some of this.

Plastic comb is good advice too. And will definitely check the whole household.

Use leave in conditioner on their hair when they go back to school - the nits can’t cling on to slippery hair. Are you using an actual nit comb?

What comb- get a nitty gritty comb.

When you say you've been combing regularly, how regularly? When I've had to get rid of nits I've only used the conditioner method but repeated it daily for several days to ensure I've got them all. I also check the whole household and use a plastic nit comb. When combing change the direction in which you are combing as they are slippery little buggers.
I also try and get rid of any eggs by either squishing them between my nails or by sliding them off the strands of hair between my nails it's time consuming but worth the effort.

First round with comb on dry hair
Shampoo from chemist
Second round with comb on heavily conditioned hair
Straighten the wet hair with a super strong hair straightener
Hot wash all bedding and towels
Conditioner, comb, and straightener routine for a week
Keep hair tied back tightly with braid and hair clips
Keep an eye on who your children are mixing with as repeat infestation is probably coming from someone outside of the family

Nitwits. Only one that worked for us.

ThePoint678 · 03/08/2021 08:36

You need the chemicals and you need to do it every 5 days. I know the cycle blah blah but every 5 days means you really aren’t missing any. It’s a painful process but stick with it.

Nit comb with conditioner, we have a nitty gritty one which is good.
Blow drying their hair can help too.

I only use the chemical treatments if it's extremely bad.
