Covid vaccine whilst breastfeeding

There is no right or wrong answer to this post I'm just curious... how many ladies have had the vaccine whilst breastfeeding? My baby is nearly 4 weeks old and I feel I'm been pressured now I'm not pregnant to receive the vaccine. I'm by no means anti-vax and if I wasn't breastfeeding I would have got it immediately but it just doesn't sit right with me knowing I wouldn't chose to give my children the vaccine but it would be passed through my breast milk to my son!

I've had 2 AZ, the first one when the baby was about 3-4 weeks old. EBF, No issues at all

I’m breastfeeding and I’ve had my first (moderna) and have my secondary in a few weeks.

Had both Pfizer jabs, the first when DS was about 4 weeks. Noticed no side effects in him. I'm protected, and my antibodies are passed to him and protect him. Why wouldn't I have it??

I'm awaiting my second dose next week. Feeding a 4 month old. One thing I did think is what would happen to my baby if I got covid and had to be admitted or even worse. My baby had no side effects from the first dose. Hopefully once I'm double vaccinated my chance of admission /ITU/death will be significantly lower.

I skipped into the centre for mine. The fact that antibodies passed to my baby was the icing on the cake for me - I can’t think of any reason why I wouldn’t want him to have protection from Covid!

IonaLeg · 03/08/2021 04:19

(And I should say he had no ill-effects of any kind, didn’t seem to affect him at all).

I'm waiting until ds is a bit bigger incase of milk reduction and side effects on myself ( I have 2 kids under 3 and have very little support). I have already had covid so I'm not concerned with catching it again and ds will have whatever antibodies I have left from it. Ds is only 12 weeks.

I will have to have it before returning to work next year but by then I plan to have reduced breastfeeding anyway.

I’m doubled jabbed (Pfizer) and am EBF my 4 month old. No change in milk supply, no noticeable impact on baby at all.

LBB2020 · 03/08/2021 08:11

I’ve had both AZ jabs and am still breastfeeding my 10 month old. I didn’t notice any side effects on my baby or any change to my milk supply

I'm double jabbed with Pfizer and was told I'd pass some antibodies on to my 20mo through my milk, which I personally think is a good thing. I can definitely understand the hesitation though and made sure to do my own reading before I booked my appointments.

I had my first dose when my baby was 3 weeks old (when I got my invite) and my second eight weeks later. I had to take my baby to the second appointment as I couldn't get a weekend slot. I had Pfizer as I'm under 40. I had a sore arm both times; better 48 hours later. I feel very happy to be fully vaccinated and I hope I'm passing some immunity to my baby through my breast milk.

Had Pfizer in Jan 2021 when baby was 2 months old and EBF, then had second dose in April when baby still EBF.
No problems with effects on baby or supply and some encouraging evidence I have passed on some protection in my milk. Thanks NHS!
