Potty training - is my DD urinating way too often?

Not sure whether to be worried, dd has started potty training this week shes 2 years 10 months and its going really well apart from the fact I notice she is going every half hour, seems excessive? Not sure if its because its new or do I need to worry?

I only have DS to compare to and he was a steel bladder (still is age 6) and would hold his wee for hours on end!

I've seen diabetes come up in my Google searches so I'm abit worried now.

My DS did so many wees in the first week or so (generally not in the potty). I think it was because he was excited about not having a nappy on. So I'd say probably a common thing but worth checking if it goes on for too long.

She’ll settle down, some toddlers do more frequent smaller wees when wearing nappies then have to adapt. If it were diabetes she’d be really thirsty and losing weight.

I think it's about strengthening her muscles. DS(3) was the same when he potty trained.

I think it’s normal and once they realise they need to stop playing to sit on a toilet, they quickly learn to hold it for longer.

Give it a few days and see if she starts weeing less frequently. My son was weeing every 10 minutes or so on the 3rd (I think) day of potty training, just really quick tiny wees but the next day he spread them out more and the day after that he started going every few hours instead.

I would say normal at first. My DS decided when he wanted to potty train (not a good time for us) and I was home with him over the weekend and he went every 15 mins

That helps alot, thank you all. No idea how I'm meant to venture out the house with this amount of wee breaks!

For the first few days we left immediately after a wee and took the potty with us. First few trips were to the park where it doesn’t really matter.

Figmentofimagination · 31/07/2021 21:54

We didn't leave the house the first weekend (he decided to potty train at nursery on the Thursday). The only time I found it difficult was cooking tea as it took longer than 15 mins.

Little update she woke with a dry nappy this morning and did a big wee on the potty so you all must be right!

A travel potty is a god send. I bought one and I've more than had my money's worth over the last week and a half when on holiday, especially when he wouldn't see in public loos because he wasn't comfortable on the big toilet, and on a long train journey to avoid using the train loo (comes with special bags that have a pad that absorbs the liquid and then you can just tie the top and throw it in the bin like you would a nappy)

@Londonlady92 my son was a little younger 2.5 and I think it can be quite normal at the start of potty training. He was weeing every 30 mins for quite some time and then it slowly got less and less. We used pull ups to train as it was stressful and it worked for us, we also stopped and started again a couple of times.

We have the travel potty! Kept it since my DS was little, love it!
