Best cotton wool pads for cleaning baby?

Hi,

New dad here (sorry I know this is mum's net!) to a 6 day old baby. In advance of having him we stocked up on cotton pads from Wilko but haven't found the quality to be great - they often leave a bit of a cotton residue behind.

I wondered what brands and shops people find to be best? I want to find a good balance between price and quality as some seem hard to justify paying so much extra (e.g. £1.75 for a 50 pack of "Little Ones" from Sainsbury's). I've seen some Asda ones which look decent on paper but it's so hard to know.

Any advice and personal experiences appreciated!

Thanks

I used sensitive baby wipes tbh

If you can afford the initial outlay I find cheeky wipes reusable wipes much better than wet wipes.

I used the big bags of pleats to being with - much more economical, you are not paying for them to be pre-cut. Then moved on to wipes pretty soon.

Buy home made fabric pads. Then you just chuck them in the wash and reuse. You will save a lot of money over the years and better for the environment

Just used sensitive baby wipes, never an issue here.

we used flannels.
much gentler on the bottom than baby wipes.

I would suggest cheeky wipes or flannels ( they are both the same basically).

We bought x2 packs of cheeky wipe 18 months ago and they are great. Just use in warm water as needed. Handy for butt, face, hands

Reusable wipes! By far the best at cleaning poo, and obviously less landfill.

In the beginning I used the cotton wool you tear off. I found it easier to tear off the size I needed. I soon moved on to wipes though - easier all round. I liked huggies.

I use cheeky wipes too, but when my youngest was teeny tiny I found the Lidl make up disks very good. There’s something in them that means they don’t disintegrate, so I could soak a stack of them overnight and have them ready for night time nappy changes without them forming one big pile of cotton wool.

For what it’s worth, I had used baby wipes with my elder 2 children as newborns with no ill effect, but my youngest reacted very badly to them so we only used water.

The pads that are disc or circular shaped rather than the cotton wool. Much better on newborn skin than wipes.

Thanks so much everyone. I hadn't come across cheeky wipes before so I'll look into them since they seem to be getting a lot of recommendations.
