DD turned 18 months and recently had her 10-23 months assessment. This one and the previous one was done over the phone so this HV hasn't had a chance to meet DD yet to make her own judgements in person. I felt like I was saying "no, not yet" to a lot of the questions she was asking and it feels a bit disheartening. I know she's only at the beginning stage of this assessment - do toddlers make such huge leaps in this time frame? Questions I was saying no to were basically any regarding DD following instructions (she understands drop it or give in both English and mother tongue, otherwise she doesn't understand majority of instructions) and listening to commands, like "put on your shoes" or "get mummy's bag." Speechwise, she can say mum and dad both in English and mother tongue, and granddad and grandma in mother tongue. She waves and sometimes says hi, and when I sing songs with her she tries to make the sounds but not necessarily the words. I don't get the opportunity to read books with her at all because she would just rather chew on them! Should I be concerned or just see how it goes? HV said it sounds like she's doing great but I believe DS to be autistic (not yet diagnosed) so how he was as a baby and toddler is my only experience.
