Hello looking for advice.
Daughter who is 7 needs fillings, is there a way they can do this without using an injection as there is no way whatsoever she will allow an injection to be used??

Begging this can be done without an injection

Potentially if it’s a baby tooth and it’s not too deep/decay close to the nerve. If not you’ll be looking into sedation

Yes still baby teeth and only a little bit of decay from what I can see. So hoping numbing sprays as no way she will have injection even with numbing sprays etc.

Thanks

DS had to have an abscessed baby tooth out at 3. It was a front tooth that had fractured in an accident. I was so worried he would have to have a general anaesthetic but in the end found a dentist that gave him a tablet to make him drowsy and it was all out in 30 seconds. Sorry I can’t remember what the medication was but perhaps this might be an option?

Have some faith in the dentists - I can inject LA into a five year old without them even noticing on a good day. Numbing spray doesn’t work for fillings. Sometimes they can be done without anaesthetic but obviously there is a compromise in the quality of work... or stainless steel crowns can sometimes be placed which don’t need local anaesthetic.

What is the cause of the decay do you think? Have you identified the sources of sugar in the diet that are contributing?

Also - children can smell fear so if you sit quietly on your phone in the corner with a smile on your face the chances of success are a lot higher than if you are holding a hand and asking your child to be brave. The best appointments I have are when parents are relaxed which reassures the children loads! Treat it like no big deal and it’s no big deal honestly - don’t stress

Ds5 has just had one in a baby molar. No numbing or injection needed. He didn't even flinch when they drilled it! (I sat there almost sobbing about how much of an awful parent team we are)
