Do preschools use cloth nappies

DS is 2 6 months and I'm planning to potty train him in the spring. He also starts preschool in January. I've just bought some Motherease AIOs ready to wear when we're out and about and I was thinking of putting these on him for preschool. He's not very good at remembering to ask when he's playing etc.

He's going to do 2 mornings to start with and he nearly always does a poo in the morning. It's often runny so some of it doesn't stay on the liner. If I use flushable liners am I being unreasonable to ask them to use cloth. I know lots of people find the poo issue really gross! Or should I just put him in disposables those mornings?

Dd1 is 3.3 and still in nappies. We use cloth, so that is what she goes to pre-school in. To be fair, she has only once needed changing there (she poos regularly before she goes, and is only htere for 3 hours, so i change her when we get back) but they dealt with it fine (was a large poo) and made no comment other than that she's been changed.

Think it depends on the pre-school, but more are accepting it now.

mumtoboys but surely they would have to deal with the poo, ie flush it down the toilet, even if your DS was in disposables? Please don't tell me that most people/places put it in the bin, that is digusting!

If you use all in ones I don't see it would be much different from disposables. Any decent place should accommodate your wishes.

Ds in cloth nappies (Totsbots) at nursery from 6mo - only the occasional issue when not fitted properly!

Ds effectively potty trained himself over a weekend at 26mo - does have the odd accident when he is very engrossed in play activity, but generally no problems.

All the nurseries I checked with were OK with cloth nappies.

"It's often runny so some of it doesn't stay on the liner"... I'm not sure what you mean here.. will it be all over the nappy?
if so it sounds a real mess.. couldn't you just put him in pull ups for 2 mornings a week?

mumtoboys · 27/11/2007 18:45

I'm not sure why but his poos aren't that solid (sorry .. a bit graphic!) I think it's cos he's a fruit fiend.

My 2.5yr old's poo is the same, and i've just been told by the doctor, that he has toddler diareah (sorry can't spell!) he's also due to start nursary a couple of morings a week in the new year and the 2 that I have spoken to have said cloths fine and when I explained about the poo they said that would be ok too, although one said they would just put the whole lot poo and all into a nappybag for me to sort out at home so I think it depends on thew nursary

Our nursery / preschool is fine with cloth nappies. There are lots of children there in them now . They just take the nappy off, put it into a bag and I do the poo scraping when I get home .

It saves having to drag huge bags of nappies in every other week or so plus wriggling toddler, lunch box, change of clothes, fave toy, kitchen sink etc etc

coby · 28/11/2007 17:25

btw, mine is a fruit bat, has same nappy issues, nursery not too shocked thankfully (though they do laugh at her big wriggly cloth bum sometimes )

mumtoboys · 28/11/2007 17:45

Wallis. Is this toddler diarrohea thing a problem for them. He eats probably 4 pieces of fruit per day so i've always assumed it's that, or could it be due to something more serious?

mumtoboys - thats what my two eat. Doc said that would cause the 'interesting' nappies for sure as 4 pcs fruit in one small tum = . He said it was no problem at all.

137wallis · 29/11/2007 18:46

no not a problem, although it can be caused by too much low fat stuff in their diet, and sorbital(an artifical sweetener) and doc said no more than 2 peices of fruit a day, and more dairy, let me know if you want more details! but its not harmful and usually clears up by the time they start school!

mumtoboys · 30/11/2007 09:27

Only 2 pieces of fruit a day . I can't believe a doctor recommended this! What about encouraging them to eat healthily? Surely in the long run it's better that they eat more fruit.

Thats what I thought too! and he loves fruit soo much, i've even tried hiding the fruit bowl, but he just crys and looks for it so i've ignored that peice of advice, and hes back to 4 or 5!

mumtoboys · 30/11/2007 11:30

I agree with ignoring it . DS is v chunky so I'm sure he's getting enough fat etc. I'm sure he'll be loving chips etc in a few years so I'm chuffed he likes fruit at the mo. Don't want to start discouraging it!!

me nether, have increased his dairy intake and cut out as much juice/ squash and anything containing sorbital! I'm hoping thats still going to help, even with his mammoth fruit eating!
