So he has really bad trapped wind. We were using infacol but it seems to have stopped being effective (my midwife did say that if you use it too much that babies become immune to it) we tried gripe water but he hated it so much he would either spit it all out or choke on it.

It feels like a constant battle. I assume there is light at the end of the tunnel and he will grow out of it but I feel so bad for him when he's crying in pain and I can here his belly it must be painful.

Any advice would be much appreciated 🙂

You have my sympathy as my DS was the same. It turned out that Tongue Tie was causing his wind.

If you're FFing, what formula are you using? Have you tried adding Dentinox to the bottle?

If you're BFing, is there a Bfing Support Group near to you? They should be able to help Thanks

Have you tried mixing the gripe water with your babies milk ? Honestly try stick with it if you can, my son hated it at first but it works so quickly and got used to it over time.

He will definitely grow out of it. When he is able to be more active he will be able to work it out for himself. If breastfeeding make sure stomach is lower than mouth when feeding. Lots of upright & tummy time, monkey in the tree hold.

monkey in the tree hold.

Is that the same asTiger in the Tree hold rose? I haven't heard of that one before Smile

Are you doing lots (and lots) of burping and leg cycling? Tummy massage helps too, there are YouTube videos that explain how to do it.

cookiesandcreamm · 26/07/2021 07:28

I used to put gripe in his bottle and I would put some on his dummy.
Tummy massage
Bicycle legs
I used to also lie him down, take nappy off, get his legs and curl them towards his belly, afew times on and off and that always helped the wind pass.

Horehound · 26/07/2021 07:30

Gripe water used to contain alcohol and doesn't any more these days. I don't think it works really.

Bicycle legs, hand in circles on tummy and patting back.

I'd still go back to infacol though

MarshmallowsOnToast · 26/07/2021 08:46

My DS is 14m now so not an issue anymore but he had awful trapped wind as a baby. We tried changing bottles, gripe water (made him sick), tummy massage, bicycle legs. None of it was a miracle cure but very occasionally would get a small amount of wind out with the bicycle legs.

I recently read on here that Colief is so much better than Infacol. Wish I had read that last year!

Maybe worth a go?

Thanks for all the responses

@BunnyRuddington he's on special protein milk that he gets on prescription so I can't change his milk. I didn't no tongue tie could cause wind but no one has ever mentioned to me that he might have it

@MarshmallowsOnToast I've never heard of colief I'll try anything to help right now

This might well be an old wives tale but it worked for me!!
When winding walk up (and down) stairs - carefully!

We used biogaia it's amazing and available in pharmacies.

Narwhalsh · 26/07/2021 10:15

Posterior tongue tie caused my DS poor clicky latch and taking in lots of air when feeding and then being v uncomfortable... only diagnosed when an IBCLC actually felt in his mouth for it (wasn’t possible to be seen as sitting within the fleshy but under the tongue)

Would recommend sling wearing to keep baby a bit more upright (as opposed to lying down) can help

Babydust13 · 27/07/2021 09:27

@Marshy86 I didn't think you were supposed to mix it with the milk? But I could be wrong
