Changing tables

I have one, we only bought it second hand but I've noticed my daughter (5months) is beginning to get too long for the changing table and I'm thinking... what do people do?

The changing table is great, I've got everything I need there.

Surely people don't change their baby on the floor in the middle of the night? I can barely see straight, where would I keep nappies etc? Argh

I got rid of mine when my baby was learned to roll - she kept attempting to throw herself off even with me there so thought nope. I change her on a changing mat on the bed/floor/sofa depending where I am. I use a nappy caddy to keep all the bits in which makes it easier to move from room to room.

I can honestly say we've used DDs changing table and mat less then 5 times since she's been born. She's 8.5 months.

We just change her whoever we are. Bed. Floor. Sofa. Back of the car.

(Or in public I go to a baby change.)

Her changing station is on a set of drawers we use so not a total waste of money. But no we never use her changing mat.

And get a caddy to keep nappies and wipes in. So handy!

We have a caddy with everything in for changing.
Never seen the need for a changing table as I would find it annoying going up and down the stairs several times a day.
We change where ever we are, floor, bed etc
If out obv baby changing room.

When mine were babies I just had an big chest of drawers with a changing mat on it
Kept changing stuff in the top drawer

Shelovesamystery · 25/07/2021 10:31

We always used a changing mat on the floor or bed. Nappies and wipes were in a cupboard downstairs and in a bedside table drawer upstairs, just grabbed a nappy and pack of wipes before the nappy charge.

3 kids, never had a changing table! Just used mat on the floor/bed/ wherever!

Never had a changing table, just used changing mat on bed, floor wherever. Kept nappies & supplies in a basket which could be easily carried from room to room as needed.

My daughter's is 8 months and we're still using the changing table multiple times a day, and at night if necessary. It's so handy and all her stuff is there. I just make sure to keep a hand on her and not step away for anything so she can't to off. If we're changing her downstairs we use a nappy caddy that has a fold up changing mat.

Never had a changing table - couldn’t see the point if you were downstairs when a nappy needed changing. Just used a changing mat on the bed or floor.

Babyboomtastic · 25/07/2021 11:00

I had one for my firstborn. I used it for storage and just changed her on the floor, sofa, wherever I was. By my second, if a wee, I'd often just do it in my lap. Obviously if out somewhere with a changing room, I used that, but that's the only time I use a changing table. Floor is safer anyway.

I love my changing table and still use it for morning nappy change even though my daughter is 2.5 years old and is potty trained. Whenever we’ve been away and used the floor or sofa or whatever I’ve got back ache after a few days so for me it’s worth it. My daughters legs now hang off the end but it still works, are you sure your daughter won’t fit any more??

DappledThings · 25/07/2021 14:30

Surely people don't change their baby on the floor in the middle of the night?
How often do you need to do that? Mine had stopped peeing enough to leak through overnight by a couple of months. They don't need changing overnight routinely if it's just wee.

DaisyWaldron · 25/07/2021 14:38

I never had one. Towel on the bed/floor/my lap worked best for my wriggly firstborn, and while DC2 could probably have had nappy changes on a changing table, there really didn't seem to any point in having one.

PlanetTeaTime · 25/07/2021 20:12

Thanks for the replies, I love the idea of a caddy. We have a nappy bin upstairs but maybe we won't want to use that so much when she's on solids?

We never had one and just change where needed, we keep a mat and a basket in the front room with all the wipes etc in it as we change the nappy in there the most.
