Doona Car Seat

Ive been looking into the Doona Car Seat for baby no.2. I was just hoping some mums may have it or use it with more than 1 child and could perhaps tell me situations where it's been useful. I'm not concerned with the safety aspect so not looking for advice on that, just simply situations it's come in handy. I can't really think of any at the moment to be honest but I'm really interested in the concept of it. We will have a normal pram with carrycot too.

I don't know how to edit Blush our DD will be 2.5 at the time no.2 comes along If that helps

Seems completely pointless to me.

Why wouldn’t you just use the car seat and pram you already own from your two year old?

Caspianberg · 24/07/2021 12:27

We considered as we have a tiny car so when I go shopping, can’t fit pram And shopping in car. Also for travel. Tbh we didn’t get as I couldn’t really justify the price as due to Covid no travel which would have been main benefit.

Would have been handy sometimes as some days Ds was constantly woken to put into sling when I couldn’t fit pram in car, so would have been handy to keep him in car seat sometimes and just sling the other. Or use sling and have option to take compact seat out if I needed to put him down.

But we have now bought babyzen yo-yo pram to use when can’t fit main larger mountain buggy in and it fits in footwell. So if we had another I would probably just get a baby maxi cosi newborn seat to add to that now. ( our only car seat so far is a fixed in car 0-4 year type). As the pram has much longer use and about the same price

DD is now in a fixed car seat that spins and the travel system we had isn't in the best condition, so will be getting new. The travel system car seat was given to grandparents and later sent to the tip without asking Angry as they weren't getting use out of it.

Same as you. Interested in concept but in the end didn't get one as I just couldn't see how I would get the use out of it.

I had always thought there was a gap in the market for either a car seat with wheels or pram that could be strapped into the car. However I think it's just too hard to do. I feel the Doonas chassis just felt a bit insubstantial and it didn't stack up a giant just lifting an infant carrier onto travel system wheels.

Also it's expensive for the length of use you would get out of it.

not giant

Also it is very small / low. I am only 5ft 3 but even to me it felt a bit like I was pushing a dolls pram.

I've seen loads of mums with them - think they look handy for popping into the supermarket or to baby groups (if you're driving to them). I'd imagine they're pretty heavy though.

Miraloma · 24/07/2021 13:28

My friend had one and the wheels got dirty when out then wrecked the leather in her car.

It was also very very heavy and the harness never seemed to fit right.

Just remembering the time we did travel in her car with her, and the wheels had dog shit on them and my dd was sat next to them and kept wanting to spin them!!

(will die if this is outing!)

Hahahaha this is so funny because something that would definitely happen to us!

I think we've decided not to bother, we won't use it for nursery drop offs as it's just down the road so would walk with pram, I can't see it's useful for supermarkets trying to push that and trolley alone, any longer walks/shopping centres would likely be pushchair. Also, my daughter doesn't seem the type that will stay stood/sat on a buggy board and she's not too good at being well behaved when walking alone! Screams nightmare situation to me!

I do love the concept but it's just not really that practical when you start thinking about it!

It was amazing! We used it for about 18m with my first and until 2 with my second (we don't have large children). They are great for popping in and out of the car but they also got in toilet cubicles, down the aisles of trains and can be used easily in taxis. With the wheels down it's also a rocker.

They were especially great in the rain, as the car seat can be used with the raincover on, and the front unzipped (so child isn't such behind it). In heavy rain, baby) toddler was out and being wheeled in the dry almost instantly, whilst other parents were still trying to build a chassis in the rain.

We used a sling lot as well, so tended to alternate the two. My main buggy only left the house every month or so because it just wasn't needed.

And yes, it is low, but the handle is extendable and fine for my over 6 foot husband to use, but equally (with lots of help obviously) my toddler could push around her sister.

If i have a third, I wouldn't bother getting another pram, just doona and sling.

It only really works if your eldest doesn't need to a buggy. I had one with our 2nd but my 1st wasn't in a buggy by then so she walked and he was in the doona. Great for nursery runs, shopping etc. Hardly used the big buggy, it stayed home as a downstairs sleeper for the baby.

Less than a 2 year age gap here.
Eldest when she didn't want to walk either rode it like a chariot and baby went in a sling, or she went on my back in the sling. Basically a sling + doona combi is fine as long as you like slings!
