Breakfast ideas for 10 months old

My baby has religiously LOVED porridge every morning for the past 4 months. I mix it up with different fruits. But now she won't go anywhere near it!

Can anyone recommend any other healthy breakfast ideas?

She's not a fan of eggs and she loves toast but I can't give that to her all the time m

Thank you!

• Pancakes.
• A crumpet (makes a change from toast!) with finger portions of fruit: banana, strawberries, watermelon and halved blueberries are a hit here.
• Beans (reduced salt and sugar variety or make your own) and mushrooms on toast.
• Mashed avocado on toast.

Just give her what she likes, it doesn't have to be 'breakfast food'.

You want something high protein and fibre. Low sugar and salt. Anything that fits that.

If she likes fish pie and you have some left over from dinner - give her that! Anything that's healthy, don't worry about breakfast being 'breakfast food'.

Weetabix mushed up with fruit? My DC ate that very day for months.

Why can’t she have toast every day? With peanut butter or a glass of milk.

@AliceW89 oh thank you! These are great suggestions!

@NuffSaidSam I actually never thought of it like that! Pasta for breakfast it is! Haha

@BritInAus ah I've not tried weetabix I'll give that a go!

@4PawsGood I like to ensure she has a wide variety of nutrients in a dish so currently she would have porridge with fruit, but nut butter for protein and chia seeds and flax seeds for added omega 3

My daughter has had peanut butter on toast with a banana for breakfast every day for probably 2 years now. Occasionally she'll have a bowl of shreddies, or Cheerios but then will have peanut butter toast for lunch instead 🤣

I just make sure I use good wholemeal seeded bread and not white rubbish.

HalloHello · 24/07/2021 10:26

Oh and obviously peanut butter that is just peanuts, no added salt/sugar or palm oil

4PawsGood · 24/07/2021 11:20

You’re slightly wasting your time with the flax seeds, the omega 3 is not very accessible to humans.
I’d just get some seeded bread and keep an eye on her fish intake or get some supplements with EPA and DLA omega 3 rather than ALA.

So peanut butter on toast with some fruit seems fine to me.

4PawsGood · 24/07/2021 11:21

Also, yes to need to ensure there is some protein with each meal, but other than that you don’t need to get a mix of nutrients at each meal, look at what she’s eating over the whole day and you’ll be able to meet her need much more easily and effectively.

My baby prefers finger food, I soak some mini shreddies in milk and then she eats them with her fingers. She also has melon, strawberries, banana and sometimes toast with marmite or peanut butter

Maggiesfarm · 25/07/2021 03:03

Boiled egg and soldiers? Some fruit before or after. Yogurt.

Try cereals other than porridge if she has gone off that.

takealettermsjones · 25/07/2021 19:12

Weetabix with mashed banana
Yoghurt with sliced/crushed fruit
Peanut butter on toast
Soft cheese on toast
Mashed avocado on toast
Cheesy omelette

I also make egg cups where I chop up ham, cheese and any veg we have (spinach and mushrooms both go down well) and then put it in a small plastic cup, pour over beaten egg and then zap in 20 second intervals until the egg fluffs up. Chop it into bits and she can eat with her fingers.

Have you tried overnight oats? My 10 month old and toddler both love them or baked porridge fingers are good if they don’t want porridge. Can also make your own pancakes and serve with fruit/yogurt

Odile13 · 25/07/2021 19:59

3 ingredient pancakes (banana, egg, oats) from the My Fussy Eater website. My baby doesn’t like eggs either but will happily eat these pancakes.

Weetabix with yoghurt and fruit purée

Ready brek with mashed banana and no salt added peanut butter
