DD won’t eat cereal

My DD is 15 months old and eats a wide variety of foods, but has never taken to cereal. She’s only tried weetabix so far but refuses to eat it every time! As a result she tends to have toast or porridge for breakfast, but I’d really like to get her eating cereal if I can, if only for the calcium content! Does anyone have any tips?

No need to apologise! You know how to feed yourself right? I'm assuming you're healthy and eat reasonably well most of the time? It doesn't have to be rocket science. Giving your dd Weetabix, cherrios or whatever sometimes is fine (if she'll eat it Grin)

Have you tried readybrek for speed? It's just milled oats and fortification, I put some (probably less than the pack says 40g) in a bowl stir in cold milk (fortified oat milk due to an allergy) add a tbsp or two of ground almonds (extra cals, protein, and fat), bung in the micro for 90 seconds, then spoon some out into toddlers plastic bowl, add cold milk if it needs, and by the time I've got her to sit down it's the right temperature.

I've added a couple frozen cherries before going in the microwave to make a Bakewell flavour, and grated apple and cinnamon is a winner too.

If you're desperate for your DC to eat weetabix, start adding a bit at a time to porridge. Porridge is a much better vessel for a nutritious breakfast though (as you can add nut butters, seeds, fats, etc).

If you want something fortified, you could try ReadyBrek.

If your DC hates overnight oats (I do), you can make it up overnight (lasts for about 5 days in the fridge) for convenience, then add a bit more milk and heat it up in the microwave in the morning. This is what I do as I wake up hangry and hate the faff, but porridge is my favourite breakfast.

You shouldn't give fruit juice to wee ones.

Oops! (Can you tell I don't have wee ones? Smile)
