Is it normal for toddlers to sweat in this heat?

My DS has been outside a lot today and I’ve noticed his nose and scalp sweating quite a bit, especially after he’s been doing physical activity. Some of his hair was wet with sweat!

Is this normal for a 15 month old? I know it’s very hot but I’m sure I recall reading somewhere that toddlers and small children don’t tend to sweat like adults do! Can anyone help?

I cant remember exactly when it is but they do get to a point when they can better self regulate their temperate, and sweating is part of that.

As long as he's comfortable and well hydrated I wouldn't be too concerned but the NHS website will probably have actual information.

My 14 month old is very sweaty!

God yes! DD2 was always a little sweat pot bless her, even as a small baby I'd be holding her and my arm would end up soaking.

My 11mo is very sweaty!

Yes mine have always got sweaty heads/hair from tiny through childhood. Need more frequent hair washing in this weather for sure.

Yes all babies / toddlers sweat! I think you're getting confused with sweating as in perspiring and sweating as in smelling : having BO. Little ones don't get smelly unless they're very unclean but of course they produce sweat to cool down during heat& activity

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 22/07/2021 19:55

yes

DD had to only wear footless babygrows - her feet sweated so much the feet were damp and horrid in footed ones... She still wakes up cross in the night due to hot feet. Both my toddlers were very sweaty in the sun (unsurprisingly as sweat pours off me in summer), not heard that they don't or shouldn't.

TigersandTeddybears · 22/07/2021 20:23

My toddler has had wet hair all week 🤣 and lovely sweaty T-shirt's too. No BO though

Needingsupportplease · 22/07/2021 20:28

2 year old here and her head is constantly soaked!

SapphosRock · 22/07/2021 21:39

16 month old DS is extremely sweaty. The hair at the back of his head is wet with sweat in the morning despite only sleeping in a nappy.

He has needed lots of water in the night this week too.

Never noticed it with DD. Maybe it's a boy thing.

KittenKong · 22/07/2021 21:42

Gosh yes - DS was a sweaty little bundle in the warm weather (he used to say he was a ‘hot kekkle’) with very red cheeks and slippery as an eel.

He (now 17) still gets very hot at night and isn’t enjoying this weather one bit.

Don’t think so - my DD is exactly the same (as your boy!)

Maggiesfarm · 22/07/2021 21:50

Yes they do sweat, even little babies sweat. It's normal. Just make sure they keep fluid levels up and they'll be fine.

Blippibloppi · 22/07/2021 22:09

Both of mine (3.5yo and 8mo) are super sweaty. Little one needed a new outfit after being in the car seat for half an hour - so did I to be fair!

ShinyGreenElephant · 22/07/2021 22:15

My 4mo and 2yo have been a sweaty mess all week, especially when breastfeeding!
