New dairy/ milk allergy

Can I ask what symptoms your little one had when displaying a dairy / milk allergy.
Lo is 7 months and since started weaning is constantly congested, struggling for breath. And certain foods make her vomit and wheeze worse. I'm still doing a good diary to figure out which foods.
She also has what seems like episodes of being cold but sweaty and clammy.
I'm certain yogurt does, she had yogurt last night after dinner and 2 hours later was vomiting and wheezey, arching tummy and back, unsettled, crying when arching back and tensing tummy.

And any food I've made with tin tomatoes in seems to have similar reaction.

We've definately had issues with fish, where she developed rash round face, vomiting every hour overnight, tummy pain, obvious discomfort, hot flushes, high heart rate. Ended in an ambulance been called and a trip to hospital.

Doctor thinks she could Now have a milk allergy, and although we've never had issue with her formula, he says it can start at any time. Congestion and struggling for breath is constant but certain foods make symptoms worse.

Awaiting allergy appointment next month, but just wondering if it's worth asking doctor to prescribe a different milk to see if it makes a difference.
Do what I'm describing seem like typical milk allergy symptoms?
Thanks! This is all new to me, as we never had any issues with my eldest with weaning.

Nasal congestion was my sons biggest symptom of CMPA. It doesn't have to be massive hives/swelling/rash to be an allergy. You get IgE and non-IgE allergies, both have different symptoms. Your baby sounds very much like they have an allergy!

It may be that he hasn't reacted so badly to the formula because the protein is much more broken down but I would definitely eliminate dairy from his diet and ask for a dairy free formula prescription.

Side note : 60% of babies with CMPA will also be allergic to soya as the proteins are so similar. They will likely try you on a soya based formula first so be aware of that. Also make sure they don't prescribe you aptimel pepti anything because it still contains dairy.

Ps if he's had congestion from birth/very young, it's likely to be to do with the milk. My son was the same and it disappeared very rapidly after eliminating dairy.

To be honest, she's always been a wheezy baby on and off, she was 4 weeks early and the consultant told me at 6 weeks it's just because she has a floppy larynx.
Symptoms have got much worse since starting weaning.

Thank you, I've got the doctors ringing this afternoon hopefully, so I'll ask for dairy free formula and cut all diary for now.
Thinking back to the fish episode, I now wonder if it was the butter /milk in the mash rather than the fish.

How long did it take on the new formula for symptoms to get better?

I would think its all connected to an allergy to be honest.

I cant speak from personal experience as I BF my son so have been dairy free for 18 months but I believe it can take up to 3 weeks to get out of their systems. Hopefully you see an improvement quickly!

My DD had a rash the day after being born. Her red book queries an allergy. I breast fed and tried going dairy free but she was allergic to my milk too. And soya. When we weaned she couldn't have deadly nightshade family; potatoes, tomatoes. Nuts, fish, wheat, egg, red meat (fattened up with dairy). She also reacted to rice so she was basically fed millet porridge, sweet potato, parsnips or apple. She was covered in eczema, wheezy, reflux and so skinny. She reacted to Eco washing up liquid on spoon as it has milk in and carpets that are softened with milk in production. But she's grown just fine, still very slim but sporty. She still can't eat dairy but neither can I and others in the family. She eats well and is very relaxed about her allergies, never tells people unless they need to know. She always coped fine at parties when she couldn't eat cake as I always told her she her stuff at home (or brought it). Honestly, you will be fine, they cope amazingly and there is so much more choice now. When I felt down I always reminded myself it could be something so much worse. Dairy allergy is just a minor inconvenience.

Forgot to say, I only realised after giving it up, that the tiny amount of dairy I consumed pre birth made me feel so ill and gave me IBS. I don't think we are designed to eat dairy.

Thank you, doctors prescribed similac formula as a trial.
I'm going to go back to basics and just give her fruit and veg for next few weeks.
Just to work out how to prepare it now, as I don't think I can use the prep machine.
