Dropping all naps at 22 months

Has anyone dropped all naps before two? Our toddler usually naps about 12 for an hour or two. It's really starting to affect bedtimes and the days she has a nap (even short half an hour ones) she doesn't go to sleep for hours. But on the days she doesn't nap she's an absolute demon and I don't think she would cope not napping all the time. But she goes to sleep within 5/10 mins! Anyone had this?

Both mine did this and also became very resistant to napping, we swapped naps for quiet time where we read or watched something together for an hour and that seemed to work for us.

DD dropped all naps at 22m having always been a shit napper and sleeper. I used to cope with it by giving her lunch and then when she would normally sleep, we'd put the TV on for 30 mins or so, for a bit of quiet time.
This seemed to work well, I brought back bedtime a little to get her sleeping better in the evening.
(She's 6 now and still a shit sleeper!)

DS is 2yo in a week or so, and I have started purposely stopping his nap this last week, just because it takes him longer to sleep at night when he has napped and that knocks on to my daughter's bed time (she waits for me to finish with him!)

He was a bit of a crank at about 2pm (TV on for 20mins) and at bath time, but he went to sleep quickly.

Good luck!

Yep at 23 months. Bedtime had to come much earlier and sometimes she needs a nap once a week and big changes like potty training has really tired her out and then she needed naps for a bit longer.

Damn it. I was hoping you'd tell me it's just a phase and she will nap and sleep wonderfully for months to come. I'm so not ready to drop the nap.

DS was just over 2 - like 1 week over. He dropped all naps 3 days after his baby brother arrived. And still didnt sleep through the night for another 3 years......

My mum once observed that the more sleep they have, the more sleep they need. I would absolutely keep the nap!

Aurorie11 · 21/07/2021 20:14

Mine dropped theirs at 13 months!

Dollpiglet · 21/07/2021 20:15

Yes my Dd dropped them at about 20 months. my D's is now 22 months and doesn't nap when with us, he can get grouchy towards the afternoon so those days I put him to bed an hour earlier (6). When at nursery they're under strict instructions to only let him have a 30 min nap before 2pm otherwise he's up for hours and hours - I'm sure they do let hin sleep longer sometimes though as on nursery nights it can take a long time for bedtime Hmm

Mine dropped his at 22mo, 1 week in to Lockdown 1 Sad and I was 6 months pregnant. Dropped to 1 nap at 13/14mo so that was not crazily early and I wasn't expecting the second one to go so soon.
However, he still slept ok at night. For a while, we would take him for a drive if we felt he really needed a nap (maybe once a week). Now age 3 he goes to bed at 6.30 wakes between 6.30 - 7. I avoid long drives in the afternoon as I think some days he would probably fall asleep. If I'm having a tough day, we lie in my bed together while his sister naps after lunch and I put the TV on for him so I can close my eyes for a while Grin

For mine it was a phase. I let them skip it for a week then offered it again. My nearly four year old still naps.

c24680 · 21/07/2021 20:22

Yep, mind dropped it at 20 months, I wasn't ready for it especially with working from home because of covid and nurseries were closed!

Like a previous poster said we swapped naps for quite time, read a book, watch a film etc

painauchocanot · 21/07/2021 20:22

@Aurorie11 that's awful, you poor thing! I'll consider myself lucky then!

You can just drop every other day / reduce length etc. Sometimes a 20min drive round is enough to get them through the rest of the day.
