Toddler (13 months old) and hot weather

Hi,

My DD is 13 months old and I’m not sure when the worry with ‘over heating’ ends? I’m a first time mum so I probably over worry with everything anyway.

In the house at the moment it’s 29.8 degrees and it’s honestly horrendous. I have windows open but with all the curtains shut and I have a fan on but it’s still horrid. My DD is in just her nappy and she seems happy as pie within herself but she’s just so horribly sticky and so so warm. My DD won’t sit still for even just 2 minutes. She’s constantly on the go running and climbing here, there and everywhere!

Is there anything else I should be doing? Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks!

If she’s happy and drinking and weeing, nothing to worry about. If you don’t have outside space for a paddling pool a nice long play in a cool bath with toys will cool her down.

If she seems happy I wouldn’t worry about it. Just keep giving her lots of water to drink, in addition to milk. Make sure she’s having fruits to keep up sugars and something a little salty for electrolytes. You can also make her bath tonight a bit cooler than usual to give her body a bit of a break. If she’s seeming energetic and peeing as usual, I’d have no concerns whatsoever.

I had both of mine overseas, where it regularly hit 40 over the summer.

They generally seemed to be fine.

Make sure they have plenty of fluids - watermelon, cucumber, lollies, ice pops etc were (still are with mine although they’re much older) all hits.

I used to go out early to the park etc, and find air conditioned places. Pool, library, shopping centre…

Don’t think there’s much else you can do.

Make sure she is well hydrated, if she is reluctant to drink then ice lollies are mostly water. Wipe her hands and face down with a cool damp flannel rather than wipes. If you can find a shady area outside or under a canopy then it will probably be cooler than indoors if there is a bit of a breeze , and water play (washing j cloths, sponges, plastic cups, duplo animals , bubbles etc) in a washing up bowl is a great cooler.

@Crimescenenow @UpToMyElbowsInDiapers aw amazing. It’s put my mind at rest! She is her normal self and she’s drinking/peeing okay thankfully but you always hear things about over heating and stuff and I’m always a little paranoid as she’s my first. I have started giving her a cool bath on the evening and she loves it with her toys and stuff! X
