Baby revving hands

Hello, apologies in advance for the long post, concerned dad here.

To set some context first, around when DD2 was 6 months old on a couple of occasions I playfully tossed LO down onto our bed from standing after bath time. LO's head didn't rock back and forth but I did notice she bounced a little. When I noticed this I had the sudden realisation that this is potentially dangerous so haven't done it since. LO has seemed fine since and there were no changes to her usual habits so I didn't think much more of it (she was a pretty sturdy baby at the time too).

Fast forward to now and LO is just over 9 months and still doing great, but I've noticed this strange hand motion she's been doing for the last 6 weeks or so, particularly while she's in her high chair at meal times. The best way to describe it is a kind of revving an imaginary bike. It seems to be when she's very excited.

Anyway, the worrier in me now can't escape the thought that I've somehow caused some damage to LO's brain by playing on the bed a few months back, and it's now being manifest as this hand thing. I feel totally stupid for even doing that with a baby! Deep down I know I'm most likely being totally neurotic, LO is otherwise fine. She's crawling, clapping and babbling, very smiley and sociable, so pretty much on track (although doesn't respond to name all the time yet). I guess the parental anxiety is taking over me though, and I haven't wanted to burden my wife with this as she's pretty down about maternity leave coming to an end.

Am I worrying over nothing and as an aside, do any of your LOs do the hand thing?

I know what you mean, I'm 99.9%sure it's just your baby being excited, I've seen similar, they do funny hand gestures because they're excited.

It's their version of clapping with excitement.

It's very much age appropriate at this point. Don't worry, keep sharing her enjoyment.

My son is the same age as your wee one and does exactly the same!
It's totally normal, don't worry Smile

Mine is nearly 6 and still does it, I don't think it's anything you've done. It's excitement.

Thank you all for the responses, feeling much more reassured. I swear I wasn't this anxious with DD1 who is now 3. This pandemic has messed with everyone's minds I think!

Hey, is your little one ok now? My 6 month old has started doing this! It's so odd and I've got myself so worried as a FTM!
