Dressing for bed in this heat?

DD is 21 months, she’s in a nappy and a 0.2 tog sleep sack (Tommy tippee) with a fan on. Her monitor says her room is 29 degrees, do we think this is ok?

My 1 yearila is just in a nappy with the fan on. 4 year old with just a pair of pyjama shorts on. I don’t think you need the sleeping bag.

toastantea · 17/07/2021 22:39

Mine would have just been in a nappy in this heat but I never left a fan on overnight.

Sleeplessem · 17/07/2021 22:56

She likes a blanket and won’t sleep without one, funny little girl. It’s a 0.2 tog. I’m going to creep into her room and see how she feels

All my three as babies and toddlers would not sleep - even when it was equatorial- without an ultra low tog sleeping bag or cotton sheet on with a vest body

MrsSkylerWhite · 17/07/2021 23:04

Just the nappy and a cotton or linen sheet if she won’t settle without covering. Maybe nip in later and lower it.

Sleeplessem · 17/07/2021 23:04

She feels fine cool not sweaty, checked her hair.

She can climb out of her cot so should take the sides off yet she rolls around a lot so HV suggested to keep them on for her safety and put her in a sleep sack for all sleep. Tricky one

She rolls around so much a linen sheet isn’t safe for her. She probably rolls a mile over the course of the night back and forth. This was the thinnest sleep bag tog wise we could find (0.2), it feels one up from paper lol

Urgh we have similar issue, I managed to convince the 2.5year old to get out of her summer sleeping bag and wear shorts and teeshirt instead bit that was after we'd woken up a thousand times because she was too hot. Hopefully it'll just be for a few days. I would keep the fan on her and try to sneakily open the zip on her sleeping bag half way or so.. so it's still on but she can loose some heat.

bleachblondemom · 18/07/2021 10:31

My baby is the same, he needs a sleeping bag as part of his sleep setup, if I don’t put him in one he thinks he’s just been left to roll around in his crib 😆 so I put him in the lowest tog one possible and either a short sleeve vest and nappy or just the nappy.

Sleeplessem · 18/07/2021 22:26

It’s 30 degrees tonight 🔥🥵

Is it safe to leave the fan on overnight? My DD is 3 nearly, she's in shorts and a vest.. Had the fan in until I went up and have switched it off as I get paranoid about leaving it on overnight.. It's still 29 degrees in her room., 😢

HalloHello · 18/07/2021 22:44

At 21 months, she's nearly 2! Surely old enough to be able to regulate her body temp. She will wake if she's too hot.

AnnaSW1 · 18/07/2021 22:52

Nappy and a big muslin.

I read kids can’t until 3 that’s how some toddlers have tragically overheated.

I’m really worried, I touched her head and she’s sweating.

Mine is 18 months and just in a nappy tonight

Bobholll · 19/07/2021 06:56

My 16 month old was in a nappy & 1 tog sleeping bag. Her room was 29 degrees 😰 she was fine, sweaty as hell but she slept through as normal. I think you are worrying far too much, she’ll wake up if she’s too hot!

Lostmyway86 · 19/07/2021 07:01

My 8 month old was in a short sleeve vest and 0.2 tog last night. And 25 month old summer pj's with her usual duvet that I expect she'll just kick off if too hot. Both slept through fine.

KatherineOfGaunt · 19/07/2021 07:02

Just a nappy for DS but in another one who doesn't leave the fan on in their room overnight.

Crowsaregreat · 19/07/2021 07:20

We have doors and windows open upstairs to get through draught, and close curtains or blinds in rooms that the sun is on during the day. Also open the loft hatch, all the hot air goes up.

Sleeplessem · 19/07/2021 10:01

She was fine, it’s just so uncomfortable in this heat. We opened her door and the window in the room next door to allow some draft and it cooled it down. Prior to that it was stuffy as hell

This heat sucks! So hard to know what to do. Why can’t I leave a fan on overnight? Is it due to fire risk of the fan? I don’t blow it on his cot but just to move air around in the room… my son is 13 months and asleep in just a short baby grow but it’s still boiling

CrouchEndTiger12 · 19/07/2021 22:06

Fans just move the hot air around a room and can make you hotter.

There is a reason why fan ovens need lower temperatures/ shorter cooking times.

They are a fire risk too.
