Cold formula in this weather

Just wondering what people’s thoughts are on this…

DS is 8 months and was told by the doctor he’s got bronchiolitis and as a result is refusing most of his milk. He’s still having a go at eating food and happily drinks water (although not getting as much fluid from his sippy cup). He seems to love cold things especially at the moment with this heat. I’m wondering whether to make his bottle using the prep machine as I usually would, let it cool then put it in the fridge for when he wants it so he might find it more soothing being cold. Is this safe or something that anyone has done in a similar situation?

If you're not going to feed it straight away I'd make it up with boiling water. It's no problem to make them up in advance and then flash cool, but you should be using water hot enough to sterilise the powder, which the tommee tippee machine does not. That's not really a huge problem if you're feeding the milk immediately, but it is a potential problem if you're going to keep it around for any length of time, even if it's just long enough to cool it down.

@BertieBotts I had considered doing it this way actually. I think my question is more so is there any harm in feeding my baby the milk straight from the fridge at that temperature as I don’t think he’s enjoying the warmer temperature of the milk atm

I know a couple of people whose babies always had their bottles fridge temperature from very young - it was very convenient for them and did their baby no harm!

Dc1 refused to drink formula unless it was straight from the fridge. Even now as an adult won't drink anything other than cold drinks.

Oh yes, certainly feeding it cold is absolutely fine :) There's no reason it needs to be warm, it just seems more comforting for them but when it's hot it must be more refreshing.

Thank you for all this reassurance! Going to give it a go, will be easier for me in the day anyway but more importantly will hopefully make my DS get more of his milk down him!

@Fletcher567 aww hope he’s better soon! My LO (same age) has been poorly too recently. Only way I got her to have bits was from the fridge. Also syringed liquid at times, or frozen juice, lollies, yoghurt, that she could suck on, to keep her hydrated.

I keep some ready made bottles for if caught out and about. Dd had same as your son last year and I chilled those. I also froze one into ice lolly moulds and she loved that. I messaged company and they said fine to do. Hope he feels better soon.
