Solids when out

Hi mums

I'm a FTM with an 8 month old. She's on 3 meals a day and has quite thick lumpy/ mashed food.so far I've been feeding her at home before going out.

Stupid question, but what do you do about feeding solids whilst out (e.g. not in a restaurant)...I was thinking I could cook something to take with me and feed her whilst we are out. But how long can I keep something out of the fridge...

Confused!

Have you been giving finger food also?

cauliflowerkorma · 15/07/2021 07:40

Mini cool bag.

Banana-then mush it up in a cup or bowl with a fork in the cafe or restaurant.

I used to use jars when out.
Take a flask of hot water and warm it in that.

Sandwiches.

Soft cheese, peanut butter, humous, marmite - all good fillings and not too messy / smelly

I was just going to say, at 8 months I'd have thought there'd be some finger food? At that age my going out food for DD was a little homemade quiche out of the freezer that would be defrosted but still cool by lunch, or a sweetcorn fritter/pancake type of thing. And then some fruit, baby crisps and pot of rice cakes, one of those sticks of cheddar. Mainly dry stuff that wouldn't make a horrific mess, save that for when you home 😂

My baby is 8 months but she’s BLW. When we go out I just give her whatever I’m eating or make her a mini picnic, yesterday we went out for the day and I just took a lunchbox for her, she had a cheese spread sandwich, strawberries, cucumber, a babybel, some raisins and a bit of my burrito 🙈 she’s a foodie!

LemonLemonLemon · 15/07/2021 09:08

I used to take a banana and a spoon and use that or make little porridge fingers

New2020 · 15/07/2021 09:27

@princesslarmadrama yes sorry forgot to say doing a combination so finger food too

@cauliflowerkorma banana would be so easy but she hates it...always spits it back out

@Twizbe thanks! Will give that a go! I haven't yet given her sandwiches as thought the bread had to be lightly toasted for some reason?!

@Heyha yes have been doing finger food but mainly steamed veg sticks and fruit. Fritters is a good idea!

@Sls668 thanks I'll give the sandwiches a go!

Mashed banans, yoghurt, fruit ?

IsobelEd · 15/07/2021 09:36

Bananas and avocados were my go-to in this situation.
Jars usually taste horrid and if your baby is used to "real" food they may well refuse them.
Or a packed lunch with different kind of finger foods. DD loved tiny cream cheese sandwiches made with thinly sliced soft bread.

Don’t feel guilty about the occasional pouch. Mine eats well, home cooked 95% of the time but if I’m out and she has a pouch it’s easy and convenient 🤷‍♀️

They will all probably turn into 4 year olds who only eat beans anyway

NannyR · 15/07/2021 09:42

Avocado's are great for this - no fridge need, easy to mash and spoon feed or spread on rice cakes and nutritious too!
