Feeling mum guilt can anyone relate

I don't know if I can explain this correctly but basically I have an almost 3 month old baby. I'm a FTM and anxious about keeping him safe however from time to time I find myself being clumsy with him and he bumps his head. For example getting him out of the car seat his head bumped against the plastic handle. Yesterday I picked him up awkwardly (by accident) out of the bassinet and he kicked his legs and jerked his head back and i lost control and he bumped his head on the side of the bassinet (no fall just while being held).. im devastated everytime something like this happens, hes only 3 months. I want to know is this normal or do other mothers manage to protect their babies at least until they get mobile. I will say hes never reacted or cried or had a bump but im so scared this low grade head bumping will cause long term brain damage. Sorry for the ramble...

Other examples: my phone bumped against his head when I had it in my hand one night when feeding him and i thought I saw an insect crawling on the arm of the chair and i jumped. Also when hes on my shoulder he has jerked his head sideways and hit my head with his. This doesn't seem to happen to my husband so im afraid I'm hurting him more than normal 😥

Sounds totally normal to me. My DD has bumped her head slightly going in and out of car seat a few times - as you say she’s never been upset by it so I have assumed she is ok and would let me know otherwise. One time she poked her finger right into her eye and went absolutely mental so I do think they shout when hurt! Try not to worry x

Bless you OP. It all sounds totally normal, both the odd little mistakes and also the feelings about them. I have 4 kids and I can still remember the horrendous guilt I felt at each minor incident. I consider myself to be very protective (too protective sometimes) and also very naturally careful and not in the least bit clumsy. Yet I've done all of the above, that you just described, with my current baby (probably all of them). Like mine, your baby didn't even cry. Don't worry, no harm done at all! They are quite robust little things really. Smile

P. S. I expect you hold him a great deal more than your husband, especially if you are BF (which I suspect you are if you had a hand free for a phone), so of course it's more likely to happen to you than your DH!

Someone once told me that you give birth to a baby, a placenta and a life time of guilt. Babies are much more robust than first time mums often give them credit for.

Totally normal. I smacked my baby’s head off of a doorframe once because he lunged backwards as we walked through. These things happen!

Thanks so much for the advice I appreciate it!
Yes I am breastfeeding and on mat leave so I do spend alot of time holding him but also my husband is a total natural.
I've heard they are more robust than they seem :-) its hard not to worry about everything

@Sawa75 I know the feeling I have a 6 month old and I've caught his head getting him in and out car before but it didn't hurt him thankfully however the worst was when I was clipping his nails and I caught the top of his thumb and he screamed it bled for a while and I cried so much I felt so awful but when I googled it I see that it's very very common . I never use clippers now I always file them when he's asleep
