Her Dad is getting her a computer console and talking singing dancing kitchen, but I am SO rubbish at toys I don't know what to get. I've got her a disney princess clock and watch and a jewellery box, but keep getting calls from friends and relations asking what she would like. Would really like to ask for money/vouchers so I can get her one big thing, as she has such snazzy toys at her dads and at ours they are only little ones. Any ideas? Are Vtech Smiles any good?

Not sure she'll be distinguishing between "snazzy" and "little", but anyway, if you want one big thing for her, perhaps with relatives etc chipping in, what about a scooter or a little trainer bike with stabilisers ?

Elibean · 25/11/2007 17:25

Anything pink, IME.

And anything remotely connected to pretend make-up, jewellry, sparkly things, and dressing up clothes. If she's a girly girl (which most of them seem to be, judging from dd1's class).

If you want a big thing, how about a girly dressing table? Or a pink scooter?

my 3.5 year old is getting...

scooter
character pj's (fabbo charlie & Lola from Asda)
character slippers
pink jewellery & princess tiara etc
character umbrella (C&L again)
doll's house from grandparents
books
probably Shrek 3 on DVD

I love it that she is still little - she is sitting next to me watching me type and still has no idea what Santa is bringing her

oh yes and dressing up stuff - she loves dressing up - seen some princess shoes in Woolies that are not pink and high heeled plastic horridness - they are like sequined ballet slippers - they are £3 so will probably get her a pair of those too

How's this for ideas - my dd is 3.5 & getting (but from everybody, not just us)

Baby Annabel
A couple of outfits, nappies & shoes for the Baby Annabel
Pink Geomag (she has a big brother)
Fashion Angels in London (a magentic version of the paper cut-out dolls I used to have)
Dolls high chair
Pink lip gloss set
Crayola bath paints
Mr Beans Holiday DVD (saw it months ago & still talks about it)
Something related to Peppa Pig (BIL involved in the merchandising)
Playmobil
Plus some smaller bits for stockings etc

she already has
pink dressing up table
loads of dressing up clothes
Wonderful set of disney princess dressing up shoes
Fisher Price digital camera
More handbags than me

marble run thingmy
sleeping beutyr dressing up outfir (bleugh, but she desperately wants it)
pens & colouring books
ballet bag and some clothes.

A play kitchen with food and a tea set? You can pick them up at a reasonable price and they are quite big.

My daughter got hers last year, She had just turned 3. She is nearly 4 and still plays with it loads. You can get great play food in the ELC.

ChippyMinton · 25/11/2007 18:35

a pop-up playhouse/tent
dressing up clothes, fairy wings
piles of junk jewellery to go in her new box
dolls house
tea set

Leda · 25/11/2007 18:44

Well my daughter is 3.5 and she would really not play with a lot of the things listed above (she is not into pink for a start). It is such an individual thing (even at 3.5) so a bunch of strangers could hardly come up with better ideas than you or perhaps other friends and family who actually know your daughter.

I wouldn't try and compete with her dad anyway -- your daughter won't care about the cost of presents.

If it is any help, my daughter loves Playmobil, Duplo and Brio type train set stuff. They're good because you can always add to them in later years when you are stuck for present ideas again.

Long time since my DD was that age but would say anything to do with dressing up and make believe. Depends on your DD's interests, but anything arty-crafty would also have gone down well with mine.

WestCountryLass · 25/11/2007 19:55

My Dd is getting the Pisher Price camera and Mummy Make Me Better dolly.

Fabby, thank you all. I know she loves dressing up at nursery, but am home she doesn't seem so bothered. She LOVES my make up though, so a make up stand would be great. She is a proper girly girl at other people's houses and has handbags and clip clop shoes here, but at home she just colours and colours and colours and paints, then does some hama beads, then colours, then colours some more. Is it because I'm not giving her enough variety and should really try out the clip clop girly girl route again (she always asks to do the colouring, I don't suggest it) or do you think maybe an easel? Her best friend adores dressing up, and dd always just wants to play the daddy so that she doesn't have to dress up, but at nursery she is really into it, argh! I want to read your mind dd!! xx

ok, following that what about stencils/those mandala things that are a bit like a junior spirograph/tap a shape/shaped sponges for using with paint/stampers with letters and numbers on/a big roll of lining paper/tracing paper/activity books/stickers?

or our tried and trusted one....reading and cutting the argos/any other catalogue....you might get too many ideas then though

pollywollybauble · 26/11/2007 00:51

oh and beads for threading...

my dd has an easel which she uses on and off ...but she prefers the table/lying on the floor really
