What toys are good for a 2.5 to 3 year old boy?

He mostly plays with cars and trains (brio track) but seems really bored with everything else even after toy rotation.

Is there any toys or games you'd recommend for a 2.5 year old?

Duplo or the 123 play mobile is good because it can be used for many different things and imaginative play eg. How tall a tower can you build, can you make a garage for a car together?
Plenty of board books to share together or those puzzles where you have to match shapes.
Noisy toys are probably also your friend - shakers or we had one of those small light up toys where you press different buttons on.
Does he like getting messy? Painting or playing in water is great especially in the summer?
I think my son just liked being active so we spent a lot of time outside and at parks etc with other children and going for walks to feed the ducks etc

My DS age 2.5 is obsessed with cars, the wooden train set is a close second too.

However he also currently loves his toy doctor kit, and also a big box of play food and pretend cooking set (toy kitchenware and plates etc ). And he likes basic jigsaws now too. Another hit was a large take-apart truck with a crane on the back. He unscrews it and puts it all back together.

Really though at this time of year he just lives for the times I take him out on his balance bike, he loves zooming along.

Duplo and my DS2 loved anything Paw Patrol or PJ Masks at that age.

My little one has always loved Schleich animals and Children’s Hub magnetic tiles. Best money I’ve ever spent because he has played with them everyday for 3 years now. He builds zoos, vets, cities, sky scrapers etc then puts the animals on them :)

Also, Ds has started playing with a marble run (now that I know he’s old enough not to put the marbles in his mouth). DH and I need to build it for him at the moment, but he LOVES watching the marbles go down it and collecting them when they come out at the bottom.

OP's son is 2.5/3 not 12 months. Dinosaurs were massive here, also playmobile castle, anything fireman sam (I don't know how many fire trucks we had). Outdoor play was a huge part of our lives, playgrounds, balance bike, football, Dd had a micro scooter. As others have said puzzles, stickle bricks (?Sp).
