Long sleeved bib recommendations please

I've just started weaning my LO (he's just turned 6 months) and of course he's getting messy!

I've tried the plasticy bibs with a normal bib underneath, but purées just seem to get underneath it and all over his chin/neck of his clothes. Don't get me wrong I know there'll be mess, but I'm trying to minimise. The plasticy ones just look uncomfortable too!

I tried an Argos long sleeved bib which was much better and cleaner, but it's too big for my son (the Velcro at the back is too big) so it just moves about.

I'm after recommendations for a long sleeved bib for a younger age (6 months) if possible so they fit a bit better? The one I bought is 6m - 3 yrs and too big.

I always used the ones from IKEA - long sleeve and long enough to cover a good portion of my child's clothing. Also pretty cheap so we had loads!

I really rate bibado, they keep everything off clothes and out of laps

We have the IKEA one and it’s already stained although covers well.

I bought a zebra patterned one from Tidy Tots on Amazon which we alternate between.

Bibado. Pricey but worth every penny

mommybear1 · 13/07/2021 21:10

IKEA as well - They wash great and I wasn't troubled by any stubborn stains they saved a lot of my DS' outfits Grin

Another vote for bibado. I now have four of their bibs in different patterns. They're really well designed and really do catch pretty much all of the food my dd drops. It protects her clothes really well.

ChocOrange1 · 13/07/2021 21:13

I also rate bibado. We haven't had a single piece of clothing get stained while using then with DD2. Whereas with DD1 we used to normal plastic long sleeved ones and I was often having to throw away tops with stains on the sleeves and neck etc

Bancha · 13/07/2021 21:15

I have a bibado one but the velcro was crap so DD could easily pull it off. But more importantly it smells, no matter how much I wash it. The material just seems to absorb smells (especially milk, so it’s just vile). I’d love to know how other people dealt with that, as it cost a bloody fortune! I use the IKEA ones.

mutedrainbows · 13/07/2021 21:15

Bibado. We also use the cheap long-sleeved Sainsbury's ones (£3 or £4 I think) with a silicone bucket bib for less messy meals.

mutedrainbows · 13/07/2021 21:17

@Bancha I've had ours for 4ish months and it doesn't smell! I'll use it for one full day (wipe clean between meals) and then I wash on 40 and tumble dry.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 13/07/2021 21:20

Bibado and close are the best imo and I'm currently weaning my 9th baby.

Bancha · 13/07/2021 21:33

@mutedrainbows thanks for the tip. I usually wash at 30 so maybe that’s the issue. I can’t use it at all because I can’t see how poor DD could eat anything with that awful smell right under her nose. Don’t have the same issue with the IKEA one. Maybe we are just smelly! Grin

They have very recently changed the design & are now completely wipe clean. The same soft material but it has a coating on it & honestly liquids are repelled and just roll off it and the food just wipes off.

I previously had the same issue as you where I was machine washing them at 40 with antibacterial liquid and they still were stained & stunk after washing but the new version has so far been brilliant.

I initially just bought 2 on offer as was unconvinced they'd be much better but will be buying a few more after testing for a few weeks.

Playshoes, I think it’s a German brand but pre-Brexit at least they used to deliver. Machine washable and some still look new after two kids.

HappyPumpkin81 · 13/07/2021 21:57

I really recommend Bumkins sleeved bibs. They tie at the back so are easily adjustable for different sizes and don't pull down like velcro ones. I have had several for my daughter from the age of 6 months and she can still wear them now at three and a half (usually only for tomato soup!). They last well, and can be chucked in the washing machine.

Bananasplease · 13/07/2021 22:04

Definitely mum2mum ones. They're brilliant and wash really well. Poppers too so no velcro that stops working after too many goes round in the washing machine.

GLTM · 13/07/2021 22:05

Liewood bibs, a bit pricey, but they are higher around the neck compared to others I tried

Bancha · 13/07/2021 22:07

@MarshmallowsOnToast ah thanks! Good to know! That’s another issue I had with the bibado one - it wasn’t waterproof! Useless when DD was learning how to drink. Sounds like they’ve made some (much needed) changes!

SazzleCee · 30/03/2022 23:28

We're currently using this IKEA bib www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/kladdig-bib-multicolour-80307223/ for meal times and Totsi totsi.co.uk during the day for dribbles.
Thank you for the other recommendations, we're currently looking for a new bib. I keep seeing dishwasher-friendly silicone bibs on my insta feed. Tempting!

OKScarpetta · 31/03/2022 01:00

I use the Sainsbury's ones with an IKEA food clip (the large one) over the Velcro strap at the back. Stops the baby pulling it off, adjusts the neck perfectly and is a lo tech fix… the bibs get popped into vanish to soak if needed, and then washed.

Madmaxxy · 31/03/2022 10:41

Second vote for the Sainsbury's long sleeve Terry cloth ones. I actually prefer them to the wipe clean ones as I don't want food and liquid running off the bib onto everything else! The Terry cloth holds the mess and you just wring them out in the sink after, and machine wash every couple of days. Also a bargain only £3.50 each. I tie the excess fabric in a knot to stop gaping but really like your idea of the clip @OKScarpetta !
