Gassy 1 Month old baby and Formula feeding

Hi Everyone. So I wanted to put this out there so that somebody that knows better can point me in the right direction.

Me and my wife's 1 month old daughter is having some issues with gas and formula feeding. My wife was never really motivated with breast feeding and is pretty much giving up on it other than pumping every couple days or so. Our baby is more than likely going to be strictly formula fed.

She was initially given instant Enfamil NeuroPro formula at the hospital and we don't remember any issues with gas with that. After the first week, we switched her to the powdered version of Enfamil NeuroPro and things have slowly been ramping up since then.

Over the past few weeks we've been noticing that she's getting consistent gas pain cries every so often, like maybe 1 to 2 times a day. Today we had an episode that was really bad and it took a while, a couple extra diaper changes, and a couple more small formula feeds than normal to get her to calm down.

We've tried using different formulas such as Enfamil GentleEase and Enspire, and Similac Pro-Total Comfort for a couple to a few days at a time and they've all seemed to make her gas/bowel movements even worse than the NeuroPro. My wife and I have given up on trying different formulas because they've all seem to go bad.

We even tried Gripe Water for about 3 or 4 feedings in a row one time and it didn't seem to help much. Does anyone have any advice on things to try that couple help alleviate this?

Speak to your doctor and see if they can try any other formulas she may have an allergy?

My LO has been on aptamil since birth and has incredibly bad gas. He always has done! But it massively improved when he got to a few months old. At 6 months old he is still a super gassy baby, but no longer cries/in pain.

1 month is still tiny and her tiny tummy is still developing. You could always try smaller feeds more often as well. Also I'm sure you know already but burping breaks during a feed may help. Not just halfway/at the end but whenever she may look a little uncomfortable.

Have you tried different bottles? I believe Dr Browns (I think that's what is it) are meant to be good? Someone else may have more advice though as I stuck with tommee tippee anti colic.

Hope you get to the bottom of it!

Look up infant dyschezia - it’s normal for babies to be gassy/uncomfortable it’s just them learning how to use their bodies.

I found making the milk really warm (obviously not hot) really helped though - much easier for them to digest!

What size teat are you using? Does it flow too slow or too fast?

Could it be a dairy allergy

It's pretty normal for them to cry at some points during the day.

Things that might help are paced feeding and the tiger in the tree hold.

What have you stored so far to settle her? We found that putting them in a sling and going for a walk sometimes helped as the motion seemed to get up the gas.

If you DW wants to continue BFing or Pumping, is she getting any support?
