Thoughts on this nursery menu please

I have visited a potential nursery for my 12 month old and this is the menu. Would you say this is a very typical menu and absolutely fine? Are there substantially better food options which other nurseries tend to offer? (I know very little about nurseries etc and a family member suggested I should pay attention to the menu amongst other things).

Thoughts on this nursery menu please

I used to work in a nursery and this is a typical menu

Shapesorted · 06/07/2021 20:25

Is it the same every week or a rotating menu?

ZenNudist · 06/07/2021 20:25

Looks good. Typical nursery food. Why do you ask?

It rotates every three weeks. I only ask because I'm a very nervous Mom sending her child to nursery and I'm just trying to gauge if the food is junk or is fine. People have said to me to pay attention to the menu but I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking out for

Is it similar to what you would serve at home?

MouldyPotato · 06/07/2021 20:30

Seems similar to the nurseries I know of

careerchangeperhaps · 06/07/2021 20:31

Looks pretty standard fo me.

PotteringAlong · 06/07/2021 20:31

None of that looks like junk food to me. What are you unsure about?

gingerbiscuit19 · 06/07/2021 20:31

Standard nursery menu

FrancesFlute · 06/07/2021 20:32

Looks good! I worked in a nursery and it was similar. Teas are probably more varied than my former workplace.

One pre-school I visited for DS (only last year!) had wotsits down as a snack one day Shock not with fruit or anything, just wotsits. It sounds dramatic but it was a big factor in not picking it.

nervousnancyy · 06/07/2021 20:32

Ok thanks for the replies. That puts my mind at ease

Also agree it looks fine. Maybe slightly too little protein on the veggie options but that is pretty standard for all veggie fare and they have plenty of snacks and things to compensate.

Bu surely you know for yourself what a healthy meal looks like? But for the record yes, it looks fine.

mindutopia · 06/07/2021 20:35

Sounds great. Actually sounds almost identical to our nursery’s menu so maybe we have the same caterer! I’ve seen some awful ones (lots of beige food, minimal fruit and veg), so I’d be pleased with this.

riotlady · 06/07/2021 20:35

Looks good to me

DurhamDurham · 06/07/2021 20:37

There's a good amount of fruit and veg along with protein and carbs so I'm not sure what worried you that it might be junk?

This is what I was hoping for... that someone would be able to acknowledge if they felt it was awful in comparison to other nurseries. Thank you Smile

My daughter goes to a daycare 2 days a week and this would be similar to what she has, except she gets toast for her AM snack (but also has breakfast there) and her afternoon snack would be a bit bigger than that, but she's there until 5/6pm so that's understandable too.

I think it looks like a good, varied menu with plenty of fruit and veg in there so I would be happy with that 😊

July2mebabywouldJuly2me · 06/07/2021 20:40

But surely you know for yourself what a healthy meal looks like?

OP is looking for reassurance so don't be so shitty.

kayakingmum · 06/07/2021 20:40

Pretty standard.
Nurseries never do great food as they want to keep their profits up and fill the kids up so they go to sleep. That's the impression I get from the nursery my son goes to anyway.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 06/07/2021 20:40

You can't tell if that's junk or not yourself?
GettingItOutThere · 06/07/2021 20:41

yes looks good!

nurseries i have seen give breakfast/lunch/light tea no snacks needed as they are quite big meals.

looks healthy and good!

ColdTattyWaitingForSummer · 06/07/2021 20:43

It’s much better than the school dinners in my area!

Acebobase · 06/07/2021 20:46

Standard menu for nurseries. I found the following useful - Government examples of menus for EYFS settings

LakeShoreD · 06/07/2021 20:49

Looks good to me! If they go too gourmet the kids might not eat it as it’s quite common for toddlers to go through a bit of a fussy phase. That menu is a nice balance of crowd pleasing but still reasonably healthy, I’d be happy.
